At the time the Ring magazine had a policy that the number 1 ranked boxer (Roy Jones) could be declared the Ring champion for beating the number 3 ranked contender (Eric Harding). I could be wrong though.

Virgil Hill should've been the Ring Champion however for beating Henry Maske (they were the number 1 and number 2 ranked light heavyweights at the time), and Michalczewski should've then become the Ring champion for beating Virgil Hill.

Before Jones moved up there were three main men at 175; Hill, Maske and Dariusz. Hill beat Maske to become the linear champ and then Dariusz beat Hill to unify the linear title and three belts. Theoretically he actually unified all four titles, as he also beat Rocchigiani, whose WBC belt was illegally stripped from him and handed back to Jones.

According to Nigel Collins, they made Jones their champ because he unified the WBA/WBC/IBF belts, but two of those had only been stripped from Dariusz for political reasons, not lost in the ring. There was no real justification for awarding the Ring belt to him instead of Dariusz.

Whenever a European fighter defeats an opponent, some people will always say the opponent was "washed up" or "he was old" or "he was a bum" to discredit the win.

According to such people, no European boxer can ever be great, no matter what they do.

These are fine in the US, but they are not recognised by courts in the UK. It might also be the case in mainland Europe-though I'm not sure.
