Campbell-Casamayor was over 5 years ago. We spent 3 years trying to get a rematch, which Casa wanted none of. Casa even walked away from a $1.2 million purse bid instead of fighting Nate. Dont forget, after their 2003 fight, even though Joel got the decision, he ended up in the hospital, and Nate ended up playing blackjack in the casino all night.Comment

Casamayor wanted none of because he wanted the (better) opponents in Castillo, Corrales, etc. in the meantime.Campbell-Casamayor was over 5 years ago. The 1.2 million purse bid...which he was only getting 520,000 of. He was going to get 640k, and he probably got that around somewhere for Marquez, when he was scheduled to fight Diaz. That's why Casamayor didn't fight Campbell. He was making more money against Marquez and Diaz.
And does it matter if it's over 5 years ago? Your logic is that Campbell is the champ because he already beat Diaz, even if Diaz beats Marquez. But if I say Casamayor was still the champ because he was lineal and had already beat Campbell, you say "that was a long time ago"
I mean you'll obviously say "Well Campbell has gotten better than then", but Diaz can't get better in a year? It'll almost be a year since the fight and if Diaz beats Marquez, that means he's clearly an improved fighter. Campbell lost to Issac Hlathswayo in 2006 and then beat Diaz in 2008. I think it's safe to say Campbell is a better fighter then he was back then correct? Diaz could get better in a year.
Marquez is clearly the lightweight champion. Casamayor was too, who beat Corrales for the title. Campbell is the #1 contender, there is no denying that, but he is not the champ.Comment

lineage was broken when Corrales didnt make weight against Casamayor, not to mention Castillo not making weight against Corrales. And does it matter if it's over 5 years ago? Corrales-Castilo I was the title fight. Corrales won. Corrales-Castillo II was a non title defense. Corrales-Casamayor was scheudled for Lightweight. Corrales failed to make weight, but the title shot was for Casamayor still. That's how it works.
It only becomes a non title bout when the challenger fails to make weight, not the champion.~ referee: Kenny Bayless | judge: Nobuaki Uratani 115-112 | judge: Adalaide Byrd 116-111 | judge: Jerry Roth 113-114 ~
~ WBC lightweight title ~
Title on stake for Casamayor only as Corrales failed to make weight.Comment

poor barrera. the man is dying to get into bogus title contention at the expense of totally unknown fighters. if he is really testing his capacity to come back, he should fight named boxers not pushovers.Comment
