I don't really buy that Leonard ducked Pryor. By the time Pryor became relevant (as a light welterweight), people were accusing Leonard of ducking the welterweight terror Thomas Hearns.
Leonard suffered a detached retina in that fight and retired for a long time.
It would've been a good fight but we missed out on a lot of good fights because of Leonard's early retirement. A 1983 fight with Hagler, a rematch with Thomas Hearns, a third fight with Duran were surely higher on the list than a showdown against Pryor.
Pryor would've done a lot more if he hadn't ruined himself with drugs.Comment

Hagler old man
Hearns lucky punch lost the rematch
Duran ran away both times
Hagler an old man? At 33 he was still an elite level, extremely dangerous fighter. Just ask 'The Beast' Mugabi who learned that the hard way the previous year. Secondly, this was only Leonards 2nd fight in FIVE years. Pretty impressive I'd say against a guy many would rate as the best middleweight ever.
Hearns lucky punch? He wobbled Hearns in rounds 5, 6 and 13, before scoring a knockout in round 14. Hardly a lucky punch? And the rematch was scored a draw so you can whine all you want, it won't change the official decision. Again, Hearns was wobbled on several occasions there so the decision is not clear cut.
Leonard fought Duran 3 times not twice. The first time he went toe-to-toe with the Hands of Stone. Not a wise move and one that lost him both his title and his unbeaten record. The second fight brought out his boxing skills more. And the third fight took place when both were past their best, Leonard having Duran in all kinds of trouble at times.
Lastly, ever heard of Wilfred Benitez? Whats the story there? Too young? Overrated?
I've heard it all now! Someone nitpicking SRL's resume. LaughableComment
