  • Joe Calzaghe Says - "I Am Not Thinking About Boxing"

We may have seen the last of Joe Calzaghe when he dominated Roy Jones Jr. for a twelve round decision win in November. There has been a lot of speculation over what Calzaghe will do, retire or fight on, but the Welsh champion refuses to make a decision at this time. He was due to make an announcement during the month of January. He doesn't feel that a decision is necessary at this time. [details]

Don't blame him. Anyway, B-Hop rematch/ Chad or stay retired

Joe has given us so many great fights.

He's almost 37, and past his prime. His recurrent hand injury prevented him from finishing off Jones in the late rounds of his last fight (he says he hurt his hand in the 8th round and couldn't punch hard after that, but by that time the damage had already been done to Jones).

I hope he enjoys his retirement. He deserves the best!

imo he should just say hes retired, that way it ends the circus around him and he can relax in peace. he can always come back from retirement for another fight if he thinks someone like dawson or johnson is worth it late in 09.

also having an extended break will allow him to recuperate his hands in particular. they are notoriously brittle these days and it seems he can't make it through a single training camp (since 04) without a question mark over his hands.

not only that but the long break will allow him to rechnarge his batteries and rediscover his hunger for a big fight, imo he should stay away from promotion, someone like hatton has that ability to promote but i dont think zaghe does. a complete break from boxing (promoting included) is more likely to help him mentally as well.

Start thinking about boxing again ffs. I as a fan want you to fight Chad Dawson, take a ****ing risk! Come on. Enjoy your relaxing, after your _LAST_ fight in your native country. I'm beginning to think that Joe maybe is afraid of big risks.

But again, inside the ring he is a beast, compared to no other.
