Does anyone know the reason why the Pacman/Hatton fight was made in May and not in March or sooner in the year. It seems that this scheduling is sort of late in the year for both fighters. Are they able to squeeze in more fights Just wondering...

I guess it gives them more time to hype the fight up. Also, Hatton normally has a 12 week training camp. So it may be that a fight in March will be too early for him.
Its to build the fight up as much as possible. No different than the Mayweather/Hatton fight being anounced in the summer and being fought in the fall, you want to give the public such an advanced notice to reap the highest possibile PPV numbers.
It's to help build up, hype up, and sell the fight as much as possible... getting many PPV buys. It also gives both the fighters more time to train and prepare for the fight which is always a positive.
The only fight in Manny's horizon right now ($$$-wise) is Hatton and PBF so they are not in a rush. I believe Roach also said he'll give Manny a long rest after the Oscar bout.
