    Contender Series on Verses

Ok now excuse me fellas I know this topic may or may not have been brought up before maybe not in the way I am about to discuss it maybe it was but either way please forgive me. I watched the season where Forbes was on the contender and didn't watch the prior season or anyhing there after until this season. I have pretty much seen every episode this season thus far and I noticed something. It was said by Tony Danza last night as well. The fighters do not seem to be listening to the trainers at all this season. They are not paying attention to them in the corners or while they are yelling instructions ot them in the ring.

Last night Wilson was throwin ghis jab and his over hand right and everytime Ehno was ducking down in a prime position for his upper cut. The trainer told him in the corner throw the jab when he crouches down rip up the middle and it is lights out. He nodded his head and more of the same Wilson swinging wide and Ehno catching him with hooks. Ehno's trainer told him to throw the straight right hand to which he responded the hooks arent missing him....lol but at least Ehno listened in the last round and the hardest punch landed all fight was a straight right hand from Ehno.

I have watched the show and I enjoy it seeing these unknown fighters trying to get exposer they wouldnt normally get and seeing some decent matches this season. The Cruiser weight division is fun and exciting the guys are agile enough to move around an dbig enough to end the fight with one punch. I was wondering why there arent more tounament televised like this on TV. This just proves that these guys don't have to be brand name fighters for you to connect with them and enjoy watching them fight. I was a little bit disappointed in Wilson talking all that smack and then getting beat pretty easily in a 5-0 shut out.

I was asking myself I wonder how this show does in the rating and if anyone else on the boxing scene site is watching this as intently as I am. i think this is very good for the sport and I hope they continue this series for years to come. I will make sure I try not to miss any episodes this season and pay attention to some of these fighters careers even after contender series is over. Oh by the way fellas anyone have any thoughts on who they see as the favorite at this point.....Lefty

I think Rico Hoye will win, havent seen him fight on the show yet though

Laleye-Escalara is a great crossroads matchup. Two fighters with 1 loss, both pretty bad. The winner moves on to a solid fight in the semis, losers career is over.

Eikhamenor shocked me last night, Wilson ******, but he could be a sleeper I guess. Seems like a cool guy anyway

Cora Jr lost 2 fights as of recent, but looked solid in his debut

Elam likely has the most potential on the show, but he will need to learn a lot from tommy fast. he REALLY needs to listen

I really enjoy the contender. I love seeing the guys mingle, talk trash etc and then hearing their thoughts pre fight as well as post fight. The edited fights are ok, I wish there was a way to watch the unedited rounds like last season's contender. I've been watching regularly since season one and will continue watching as long as its on the air because it's entertaining even if they aren't world class fighters. My pick to win it all is Felix Cora Jr, I think he has great fundamentals and is a very smart guy.

I agree the guys havent been listening to the trainers at all. Could just be trust issue you know they have only known these trainer sfor what maybe 3 or 4 weeks so I guess it takes times to develope trust right? Sone good fight ahead and I hope to see some KO's...Lefty

Boxing is entertaining as long as the match ups are on a even plain. it is when you have a A Class fighter in there against a tomatoe can you are bored out of you mind. At least these guys are in there swinging for the fences the fact it is a 5 round fight makes every round urgent from the opening bell there is no feeling out process because going down 1-0 is a big disadvantage in these matches....Lefty

I was really surprised and disappointed the ding a ling man lost last night. Seems like he wasn't in very good shape and didn't look good in the ring.

As far as the ratings I'm pretty sure they do pretty bad considering every year the show is on a different network, progressivly getting worse (NBC to ESPN to now Versus).

I like watching this season because I don't know much about the current cruiserweights but honestly I think it was probably a bad idea, they said they couldn't even get enough heavyweights and that's why they went with Cruiserweight, but imo they should have went with Middle or Welterweights again, maybe even lighter. Bigger doesnt always mean more exciting.
