Ivan Calderon, junior flyweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (OMB), might finally fulfill his desire to unify the titles at 108 pounds.
Ivan Rivera, president of the Puerto Rico Best Boxing, confirmed yesterday that talks are in for a fight with Ulises Solis , champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
"The plan is that Calderon fights at the end of February in the United States. Right now we are looking at several scenarios. We touched contact with representatives of Solis and they have said they are interested, "Rivera said.
Calderon has not seen action since August 30 when he suffered a cut on the forehead, the result of an accidental head clsh in the fight against Mexican Hugo Cazares. Following the injury, the Professional Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico imposed a medical suspension of six months, which ends in February.
"Since Ivan is training hard to get ready, but everything must be resolved in the coming days to have enough time to prepare well," said Rivera.
Originally, it was speculated that Calderon could unify with the Colombian Cesar Canchila, current holder of the interim World Boxing Association (AMB). However, Canchila is scheduled to defend against Giovanni Segura in Toluca, Mexico on February 28.
Also, despite the fact that Solis has scheduled a defense against Brian Viloria on March 15 in the Philippines, the possibility of unification may alter those plans.
Finally solis is trying to step up.
