Cintron is close to shot at Clottey
Reading, PA - Kermit Cintron is close to landing a shot at welterweight belt-holder Joshua Clottey. The only obstacle that remains is which outlet will televise the fight.
Boxingscene.com reported last weekend that few issues exist between Cintron promoter Lou DiBella and Clottey promoter Bob Arum in making the bout, but that HBO and Showtime have shown little interest in it.
"Right now, the fight doesn't have television," DiBella told the Web site. "Nobody has made us an offer."
ESPN.com reported Tuesday that Arum is considering Cintron-Clottey for Feb. 21 at New York's Madison Square Garden as the main supporting fight to the Miguel Cotto-Michael Jennings clash.
If that happens, Cintron-Clottey would air on pay-per-view, along with Cotto-Jennings and the Kelly Pavlik-Marco Antonio Rubio middleweight title fight.
Cintron (30-2, 27 KOs) lost the IBF belt in his April rematch with Antonio Margarito, but became a mandatory challenger in November when he outpointed Lovemore N'dou. Margarito vacated the belt shortly after winning it, and Clottey (35-2, 20 KOs) won it with a win against former world champ Zab Judah.
