For Hatton the key to the fight is his jab. He *must* build from that foundation *only* (no out-of-the-blue wild lunges that leave him wide open). It must be often and accurate. With the jab established he is in a position to make Manny think twice and get on the inside to work away at Manny's body.
For me there are question marks over Manny's midriff. I don't think it's ever been put under the kind of pressure that Hatton exerts.
I get tired of people claiming Hatton's body punching isn't anything special. Sure, it's not looked up to much since the Tszyu fight, but that's only because - for some inexplicable reason - he's shifted attention mainly to the head. Before Zoo, Hatton's body punches were sickening. Even I used to wince.
Freddie Roach claims Pacquiao will keep his distance and pick his shots. Those are absolutely the right tactics against Hatton. But it's not easy to keep your distance against Ricky. His footwork has always been excellent and he is very adept and closing down space.
Defensively Hatton *must* have good head movement. He can't afford to be upright like a scarecrow or Manny will pick him off with ease. Also, he has to circle away from Manny's straight arm punches. Don't allow him the leverage.
Another key factor is Mayweather Sr. He might act like a fool at times, be he certainly isn't one. You can bet he will have something unexpected up Hatton's sleeve come fight night.
Look, for me Pac remains favourite. He's fast, accurate and unorthodox - a formidable combination. But I don't think this fight will be the Pac walkover that many in here claim it will be. Hatton is too good a fighter for it to be so. I expect a bruising encounter. One in which both fighters will be hurt. Pac should win a *hard* fight. But it could easily go to Hatton if he can slip Manny's punches on the way in.
Either way I can't wait. This should be a cracking fight.
