people say the heavyweight division is bad now....i was watching a documentary on jack johnson the other day they hated him so they tried to get every white bum to fight him, they werent even pro boxers....looking at his record he beat a bunch of nubs

willie pep did the same....he lost to a guy who was 44-43

jack dempsey has been accused of handpicking the most, im not sure if that was all his fault or his promoters...he is probably the fighter who got away with the most on his popularity

you have hopkins at number 3 on your p4p list. your opinion on anything to do with boxing doesnt really matter i guess.

          Terrible thread.

When he was a hundred years old.

I do think Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson are often rated too highly by some historians because of their significance to the sport and the impact they had on it (Johnson being the first black man to win a world title, Dempsey being the first real moneymaker in boxing with million dollar purses) which shouldn't determine the greatness of a boxer in my opinion.

I honestly dont know much about Willie Pep, so Im in no position to talk...but sometimes I wonder if hes slightly overrated because of his huge number of wins instead of his opposition.

also, that whole 'winning a round without throwing a punch' thing was a myth. never happened, from what Ive read.

Dempsey and Johnson can be pretty overrated by some people.

In all seriousness, Jake lamotta. The man had a good chin and a great workrate, but he was slow and had no power. He'd be good today, but nothing ATG like he is considered. I don't see it anyway.

I'll say Pep...cuz alot of people say he is the greatest defensive fighter when no video has proved it.
