Let's hear your alternative. Are you really going to make height/reach restrictions as well for weight classes?
So that leaves only two options:
1. A fighter who is bigger than any criteria can't fight in a weight class, IE too long of arms for Williams and too tall for Margarito, so you force them to fight a couple of weight classes up, and who gives a **** that they are going to lose, because they are not built for combat in higher weight classes? Sounds dumb. Additionally, doesn't that just make the championships of the lower divisions hollow because everyone knows that those guys would win if they were able to fight in that division?
OR
2. You take permutations and have multiple WW divisions... WW for short people with small arms at 147, and WW for everyone who can make 147 if they wish. Yeah, and you all ***** about there being too many weight classes as it is.
So really, what is your argument here? What alternative do you have that is better than the way the status quo is right now? I'm listening...
