I dont think Pavlik has the instincts of a defensive fighter. He will never be that good defensively so i would keep his boxer/puncher type of style and tweek a little bit here and there.

      probably Roach or Nacho.

I hadn't heard about this before either. I think it'd be a mistake. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Jack gets too much flak about the Hopkins ownage. No trainer coulda helped Kelly win that fight. They had nothin but success together before that.

A good trainer could have, WOULD HAVE, prepared Kelly much more against an opponent like Bernard Hopkins!! It was like Kelly was fighting for the first time, Bernard made Pavlik look like a fool he had no idea what to do in there and was so confused.

Now I agree that Hopkins would always beat Pavlik no matter who the trainer is, but I believe a good trainer would have trained kelly so that he expects lateral movement, etc. The fight could have been at least semi-competitive. I think loew had kelly train business as usual and focus on the KO i.e looking good in front of the cameras.

He needs Roach. Needs a new game plan. I know he loves Youngstown, but the jab jab right needs to go. GOTTA HAVE THOSE NEW COMBINATIONS.

Lets not forget the history of this fight. Pavlik's camp did not really want the Hopkins fight, it was pretty much that or nothing and Pavlik was disadvantaged to the max against Hopkins at 170. It was a truly dumb move on Arum's part to match a guy like Pavlik who had some serious career momentum against a the one guy who could really derail him without upside. The only payoff would have been a segway for Kelly to 175 and maybe a fight with Calzaghe but that is a stretch. I was also surprised at how good Hopkins stamina, punch out and handspeed was at 170. I think he should truly try to take out Kessler at 168. Does anyone doubt Hopkins would seriously fack up Abraham in a similiar fashion?

It sucks for Loew but Kelly really needs a trainer who can teach him more, bring him along farther. Loew just isnt a world class boxing coach, and at this point Kelly needs that. Kelly has power, heart, durability etc. but his skills just arent where they could be.
