He didn't want a rematch, but that alone didn't make him retire.

Its like Lewis and the rest of his deluded fans have nothing else to go on in that fight other than "LOOK AT THE STATE OF HIS FACE"

But the bottom line is, cuts and injuries happen, and if the opponent is clearly winning and loses because of the cut, it is only fair to give that opponent a rematch, certainly after you manage to make a promise that you would.
vitali the fresher of the two? no he wasn't mate. pissed off this fight never when on longer so lewis could of knocked him out.

I said NO... because I don't think it was to avoid fighting Vitali.... I think it had a lot to do with how he felt in the ring with Vitali. Lewis had a LONG run as the best in the world. He is a smart man and did the right thing.... no one knows how the fight would have turned out had Vitali not been cut... regardless, Lewis knew that he was getting older and it was only a matter of time. Vitali just put it in front of his face!

You should be pissed off that there was no rematch. Even if Lewis did go on to knock Vitali out it wouldn't be because he was the better of the two, it would be because Vitali's eye had blinded him to the poin that he could not see the punches.

The rematch would have settled it, and yes Vitali was the fresher of the two, in round 6 he threw something close to 60 punches I think. Vitali said in the post fight interview "My strategy was to take it into the seventh or eighth round and my strategy was working perfectly"

When you look at career Lennox had and what he achieved, he has ever right to walk away when he sees fit.

It isn't like he retired without facing the best out there, he beat them all, including Vitali.

Of course he said that to the ring post, being as he couldn't see because of Lewis's accurate and damaging punches.

To the ring post? Vitali was out punching and out landing Lewis in every round, including the 6th and final round.
