Penalosa Clarifies Role in Nonito Donaire's Training Camp

WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa has clarified his role in the training camp of IBF/IBO champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire following Donaire’s announcement that he had decided to train in Baguio City and not under Freddie Roach at his Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. [details]

I don't know much about Penalosa's gym, but I think the opportunity to train with one of the top, if not the top trainer in the world, Freddie Roach is one that Donaire should seriously consider. Maybe by training away from the Wild Card Gym, he thinks he can stay out of that long shadow cast by Pacman, and continue to establish himself on his own terms and merits.

Now this makes a hell of a lot more sense. If Gerry was the one training him there was no way he would have gotten the attention he needed to be fully prepared for this fight. But if it's Dodie Boy training then he should be ok.

Still he should have a conditioning coach around just to be on the safe side.
