Andre Berto, Alfredo Angulo Face Tough Tests in 09 Bouts

In the first two months of 2009, two of boxing's rising stars are set to face their toughest tests. Their upcoming fights will make or break their young careers. On January 17th in the first HBO televised event of the year, WBC welterweight champ Andre Berto (23-0, 19KOs) defends his title against mandatory and former welterweight champion Luis Collazo (29-3, 14KOs). This is going to be good. Mayorga may not be great, but any fight with him is fun to watch. Same deal with Berto, Collazo is still a good test for him.

      2 things:

      1. Ortiz and Kirkland need to do the same for their card.

      2. Does Mayorga-Angulo have a location yet?

I think Berto and Mayo will win.

Its good to see these guys stepping up, these are some serious tests at this point.
Mayorga may be a bit too old and shopworn to beat a hungry guy like Angulo, he looked good for the first 11 rounds against Mosley but a man can only take so much punishment. Angulo wont give him much distance, and will push a serious pace on him.
Collazo is a really tough fight for Berto, IMHO this is the exact sort of fight both Andre and Luis need to prove themselves elite welters.

I have to applaud Angulo and the fact that he is being put on the fast track to a title fight instead of being overprotected Frank Warren fighter style.

Imagine if he wins a world title before his 20th fight? That would be quite an accomplishment.

The way he is going it looks like he might win a world title before his 20th fight. Mayorga is a pretty big step up and this is only his 15th fight. Angulo had a serious ammy career and just turned 27 years old, I dont see them taking many back step fights at this point.

Yeah that's a good thing, I hate protected fighters and Berto was about to being one. In the other hand Angulo is doing what Kirkland and Vanes should be doing at this point.

I'm excited about Berto, he looks really talented and is fun to watch, except he squeals like a pig every time he punches.
