If Naseem Hamed had never teamed up with Manny...........

Do you think he could have or would have beat Barrera?

I mean Steward made him try to box, and tamed him.

What if Naz was just loose old Nas having fun, and being more of the showman and punching from odd angles?

I think it would have been more competitive had he never met Manny. IMO I think that Steward is an over rated trainer that happened to get good talent.

I remember one thing Kenny Weldon told me when I was getting my license to be a trainer..........

"Any good trainer can take a great talent and make him a good fighter. But its what you make of a fighter with little or no talent, that judges how good of a trainer a person is."

I just think Manny did more harm than good.

Hamed would have been better off if he kept his original trainer, Brendon Ingle. The worst idea was having Steward and Suarez as co-trainers and taking turns advising him in the corner.

getting your ass tagged by kevin kelly and having a hard time with other c class fighters dont really mean his trainer had anything to do with his wack ass boxing skills.

if anything steward prolly avoided hamed getting his ass knocked the *** out...

Thats what I am saying. He changed to much in that fight.

When did Naz stay still and jab and box?

He was throwing punches from different angles, hands down, and having fun.

He was nothing like that against MAB.

I also think it was the way Barrera came into the fight. Even if he had had his old trainer and been looser, the way Barrera fought would have thrown him off just the same. I don't know if you remember all the stuff beforehand, but it was meant to be all out war with Barerra saying he was going to come in and just go straight at Hamed and go crazy.

Of course he did the complete opposite and made Hamed lead and it through him right off. I just don't think he would ever have beaten Barrera, at least not the Barrera that came in that night. Too good a chin, and Hamed not enough accuracy or balance and not enough fundamentals. He didn't know what to do when he couldn't hurt his opponent or land big shots. He never landed anything that even slightly fazed Barrera and even with his old trainer I don't think that would have chanced that much. Not enough to win anyway.

Hameds problem was never founded in his trainers, it was in his attitude and ego. I love the man, the fighter and I'm a fan. I've met him a few times have good friends who are also very close to him.

Hamed met an awesome talent in Barrera and was beaten fairly by the better fighter. I see no shame in that. Hamed found himself to be lazy in training, believing his own hype and if you ask me, he was homesick for brand new family - which I do believe is the cause of his demotivation.

It's not Mannys fault. It's Hameds and he knows it.

Hamed wasn't shy of the cameras - if he really blamed Manny, we'd have heard about it. I guarentee that.

I don't really think it mattered who he ended up with after he left the Ingles, the Ingles were the only ones who understood his style, they've made quite a few awkward arms down type of fighters over the years. Herol Graham, Hamed, Witter etc.
