Your thoughts on Deontay Wilder's Pro Debut?

Wilder, the only American boxer to medal at the 2008 Olympics, made his pro debut on the undercard of the Taylor-Lacy fight in November, scoring a second round KO over 2-2-1 Ethan Cox.

I think that as the most inexperienced member of the USA Olympic Squad that he could have benefited from a few more years in the Amateurs, perhaps even a bid on the 2012 team. He'll have to learn on the jab as a pro, similar to how Paul Williams did.

It's fairly obvious that he has some things to work on. Like finding punching distance and balance.

Wilder started boxing in 2005 so it's understandable he's not going to be the best and he's going to be moved slow.

He turned bro because he has a daughter with a serious illness. He's trying to help his family the best way he knows how. He's a good guy.

He should be moved slow, and learn the game, then see if he can cash in later.

With young guys I always watch their footwork. Wilder's is god awful to the point where you wonder if he has been trained for more than a few months.

I started trying to count the number of time he crossed his feet as he circled his opponent and I lost track after about 90 seconds.

I was not expecting much from the guy in his first fight and this is still kinda disappointing to me.

I personally think the emerging young fighters from America with the best chances of making a big impact missed the team. Guys like Danny Jacobs, Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman, they to me seem like much more promising prospects.

And what is that going to do? :

                  Make him more balanced?
                  Make him less nervous?
Make him find His range better?
                  Make him more experienced?

                  THE ANSWER IS NO!
Im sick of people believing the bigger you are the better, i don't understand why people have this perception.
Lennox lewis was just about around 230 pounds when he turned pro did he pile on the weight? no he let it come naturally, Of course Wilder is going to put on what and he should do it naturally forget lifting weights and that ****, that's whats destroying natural talent. Yes hes extremely raw but he has got great natural Assets for example that amazing reach.

Lennox was 230 at 6'5", thats still big. Wilder is 6'7" and basically a cruiserweight at 206. You're right about weightlifting being bad, but that's if he goes in their and benches and does curls. Weight lifting can be very beneficial if done right. He should start eating a ton (healthy food of course), and swimming would help build overall muscle.
