Denkaosan Kaovichit Stops Takefumi Sakata, Wins Title

Denkaosan Kaovichit (46-1, 20KOs) of Thailand knocked out Takefumi Sakata (33-5, 15KOs) of Japan in the second round to win the WBA flyweight title at the Sun Plaza Hall in Hiroshima, Japan. Sakata was making the fifth defense of his title and held wins over Roberto Vasquez and Lorenzo Parra in his last few outings. [details]

Wow. This guy has only lost to Morel. I think a fight with Koki Kameda would be next. Sakata was probably the weakest fly champ, but Naito isn't all that good. With Donaire and vic moving up it could be a wide open division.

In other flyweight news, America could conceivably have a flyweight champ if Rayonte Whitfield can beat Navarez in his own hometown in February. No small feat for sure without a ko/tko.

If I get a download of this fight, Sakata-Denkaosen, I will post here.

Pretty shocking on how fast it was done, but not that shocking because Sakata has looked like crap lately.

I doubt Kaovichit-Kameda would happen or will ever happen. I'm not even to sure on Daisuke Naito fighting Kaovicit. Naito vs Kameda please.

I hope Rayona Whitafield beats Navarez, but I doubt he will.

Naito is a weird boxer for sure. I honestly don't know how he wins.

Whitfield has to ko Navarez to win basically.

Re: Denkaosan only lost to Morel. Yes, but Morel is the only fighter he ever fought besides Sakata that wasn't a cab driver or a part-time waiter. Nice win for him though
Re: Narvaez. Depends which Whitfield shows up. He's got talent and a big height advantage, but he's inconsistent. Winning in Argentina against a longtime champ won't be easy, although Narvaez has gone into other people's back yards in France and Italy and won decisions, so who knows

I think the easiest way to sum up Naito's style is "Ricardo Mayorga will decent boxing skills"

Easily the weirdest style in boxing.

I watched this, Sakata got caught with a temple shot and stumbled around a bit before dropping to the canvas. It's hard to say how the fight was going to go since Sakata is a notoriously slow starter, but Denkaosan was definitely on top. I'd say that a rematch is more likely than anything involving Naito or Kameda at this point. The fight's on TC–Boxing btw, and if no one uploads it I will when my dumb monthly internet usage cap renews in a few days.

Yeah, Sakata did a mini-Judah chicken dance before getting laid out for the count.
Denkaosen doesn't have a massive ko pct, but he gets some good ko's.
Looks like he has quite a bit more power than the record indicates.

I like Sting Ray, he's the Great American Flyweight Hope. Send him your well wishes.

For those who haven't had an opportunity to take a look at the bout, an avid Japanese fight fan had already uploaded the video. No EN subtitle. I believe this will suffice for your entertainment though.

Kaovichit learned that Sakata was kind of open to be hit and his chin was far from granite. 13 months back when they fought for the first time, Kaovichit reportedly had an injury on his finger sometime in the mid rounds, and was deducted one point in the 12th. Nah... whatever I say right now is just a whimp.

Koki Kameda has allegedly issued a challenge to the new champion. Hoping that Kaovichit will punch Koki's lights out. I just don't like that Osaka brat.
