Question for the fans in the UK

How well known are the fighters over in your country
In America Mayweather's known through his rapping connections and De La Hoya gets mentioned in passing but people don't care about Chad Dawson, RJJ, or boxing in general

Hatton's fairly well known and loved due to the amount of exposure he gets in the media. Calzaghe is less well known but a lot of people still know him. Pretty much everybody has heard of Amir khan. Then there's other fighters that are known but only by boxing fans e.g. Froch, witter, danny williams etc.

its more or less the same thing here pal, even some of the hardcore fans have heard of them fighters bt not seen them fight.

fighters like witter, froch, skelton, enzo mac are known by those who follow the sport, but its fighters like calzaghe, hatton, haye and khan who dominate the PPV events and get the coverage.

Hatton and Calzaghe are well known, Calzaghe took the biggest sporting prize in the UK last year and was short listed again this year. Both are probably borderline A list stars.

Sport interested Joe public will know Williams for beating Tyson and Froch since he's been on ITV the last couple of fights.

Khan is known but his star is considerably fallen, A for moving to Sky and B for gettiong his ass whooped by a "nobody" in 34 seconds, the young boxers from the last olympics have been overshadowed somewhat by the Cyclists but if in a couple of years expect them to start appearing in the press as they fight the second tier bums and receive some hype.

Benn, Eubank and Bruno are still well known and sportsfans will probably know there local boxer if they have fought for a title recently.

Add in Cooper and Mcguiggan as well known and loved sports personalities that are instantly recognised by most sportsfans.

Calzaghe, Hatton and Haye are pretty big as their on tv and media a lot now for what they've achieved. Khan for the olympics but I think he has some work to do to start being watched a lot on Sky PPV now.

It's definitely not quite as main stream as say the Eubank Benn era, or Lewis however. I think as boxing has gotten if anything more complex and political with so many belts, a lot of folk cannot be bothered to put the effort in to get into the sport. So the just vaguely know stuff. I was the same once, so were a lot of us, it takes a lot to know the ins and outs of the scene at any one time.

So Football is much more casual fan friendly and easy to talk about in some ways, and it just dominates. Far too much so imo, I resent football in a lot of ways for the attention it takes away from other sports. But Boxing doesn't help itself, and also financially which is the ironic thing because most of it's short comings are due to money and greed.

Yeah agree whats been said J-Cal and R-Hat are the stars and no Haye is next but i dont know how long David will last if he loses his next fight but he should be up their.

            Amir Khan i cant stand.

Frank Warren will have a few good fighters coming through in the year 2009.

Only die hard boxing fans, like myself, will have heard of the Dawsons, Bertos, Pavliks, etc etc...

Other than that, the only famous American fighters we've known over recent years were in the UK and were commercial are:

              De La Hoya
              Mayweather
              Roy Jones Jr
              Tyson
              Hollyfield

And i think thats about it really...
