Boxing today is barbaric, a mugs game

Its truely appaling what this sport has become, back in my boxing's heyday the sport from pure and truest to the core. You had great fighters like Mike Tyson, Rocky Sloppiano, Euabnk, Nigel Benn etc holding up the flag for boxing.
But now you got guys like Paul Williams and Oscar De La Hoya who milk the ******ed mini men in the lower divisions just so they can earn a quick buck.
Back in the days you fought the best regardless if you won or lost, the athletes today are dumber than they were yesterday also. All you have to do is listen to Roger Mayweather and Bernard Popkins for 30 seconds and you know im right.

I can only think of one fighter today worth celebrating and thats Joe Calzaghe, fast, nimble, intelligent, a ladies man and who fought the very best that the world could offer.
Floyd Mayweather and Pacquioa could take a few lessons from the bloke instead of fighting old men like ODH, who was never good to begin with.

Didn't Mike Tyson fight Michael Spinks?

Marciano fought Archie Moore, as well.

Oh yes, Pacquiao sucks. But Calzaghe on the other hand goes after the best fighters in their prime. *sarcasm*

dude why have a go at paul williams, the guy is a class act, very respectful outside of the ring, good to wacth in it. he seeks out the best fighters and the biggest fights for his legacy, hes one of the most ambitious fighters out there today. if you're saying he shouldn't be fighting smaller fighters then why not also have a go at fighters like tommy hearns and david haye as well.

i do agree with you that people like roger mayweather and popkins are extremly annoying, both are immensely knowledgeable about the game and know the ring inside out. yet night of them can get over themselves and talk about something/someone else. the sport lack character like Ali, james j braddock, camacho, the trilogies with frazier, the great foursome in the 80's etc etc

their are still some very good fighters and stories out in boxing that are waiting to be told, joe calzaghe, toney, manny pacman, mayweather, hopkins, JMM are all great fighters and id bet that they'd be successful in any era.

it does seem as though we are looking for fighters that fit a certain criteria outside the ring, then we promote these fighters: especially fighteres who have success at the olympics. too many promoters are looking for the next DLH cash cow, look at the promotion of fighters like khan, fraudley even fighters like kelly pavlik, lacy are made out to be better than they are.

I don't know if Calzaghe is a ladies man but he does slap like a girl.
