Dana White Throws Verbal Jabs at Oscar De La Hoya

UFC president Dana White has been a critic of the way boxing is run for a long time. Many boxing fans don't like him, but agree with his comments on why the sport of boxing is troubled. White's recent comments took aim at Oscar De La Hoya and his promotional company, Golden Boy Promotions. He went after the way De La Hoya does business and the undercards that accompany Oscar's pay-per-view appearances. [details]

It's hard to disagree with this. Boxing is a mess of selfish promoters. PPV cards should be well stacked with good coverage given to the undercards, thus making them familiar to the general public. Right now, the undercards are often weak and a chore to sit through.

As boxing fans, we will certainly appreicate a good fight on the undercard but we often have no real idea of who it is we're watching. The general population, even less. Thus you really only have 1 fight that gets any attention.

Hell, even on PPV posters and promotional material, the undercards are often not even listed! How is the public suppose to care about it?

I can't stand Dana White for always sticking his head and two cents into boxing to bash is all the time but he is dead right on this topic unfortunately.

          True words spoken by Dana.

Boxing promoters are worried about money now, and don't seem to be concerned much with the future. This explains why they choose to air PPV cards with lackluster cards.

It also explains why they do things like only make 500 tickets available to the public for a mega fight like The Dream Match.

Most of their tickets to the event went to corporate interests.

This shows where their priorities are, IMO.

yeah he's right about oscar only caring about himself but so what? Why does boxingscene always post what dana white says about the sport? That's like a golfing website posting Vince McMahon's opinions on the sport.

Try ignoring who is saying this but what is being said. Then see if you can debate it.
