Pound per pound it is a good match...as Roy is faster than Mayweather, but he is a super quick pot shotter with pots shots form all angles inside and out..and he was so quick that he could catch you coming in at all times. Your not gonna out box Jones, that includes mayweather going shot for shot, Jones was simply tooo fast. If you do deductive reasoning...ina pound per pound fight one of two things would have to give.

    a. Mayweather fighting roy at say welter a catch weight, mean that Mayweather is not the blazing fast fighter he was at 130 but roy based on simply logic, would be even faster than he was at 160 and hit harder. Now lets see if Roy is already faster than Leonard and Mayweather at 160 and then he moved down to 147 being the athlete he is...then he would literally humiliate mayweather....unless.

mayweather applies pressure to roy can use his defense (which is the best i have ever seen) and make roy miss and get inside of roys 78inch reach (vs 72 inch for mayweather) and make roy fight a more physicial fight....

Hmmm Mayweather make roy fight more phyiscial. sorry people but roy is much better pound per pound and head to head than mayweather.

roy did not lose any fights or come close except on dq, which he immediately answered with a 1 round ko...Floyd had issues ( I thought he won however) vs Castillo, and then vs Dlh. Lets be honest do any body on here think prime Roy jones barely beat dlh by split decision? Roy never lost until he betrayed his body and damaged his fast twitch muscles, etc... but rapid weight and muscle loss

Roy not only fought the champs at 168 and 175 but he campaigned up there fighting numerious top contenders...mayweather beat baldomir and judah at welter and hatton a blown up jr welter who showed in his previous fight at welter that he had nothing at 147.

Prime roy toys with hatton so bad it is unbelievable.

roy went up 40 pounds and beat a guy who outweighed him by 20-30 pound and he did not fight like lionel richie (like mayweather did vs dlh) he out boxed, out ppunched, everything ruiz. No ruiz is not a dlh, but dlh was far from great the night he faced mayweather. In fact dlh had lost like 50% of his last 8-10 fights.

Roy also has 2 wins vs top all time fighters, and Mayweather has 1 vs a shot version of that fighter. Mayweather does have some good wins vs very good fighters however, and in all actuallity i think their resume is pretty close, but
    Jones simple is better.

Mayweather may do more things proficiently better. He may jab, he may have better defense, he may do many things better, but roys reflexes , natural athletic ability, strenght,, all where tools that he used to success that impacted the end result the same or even better. He used his reflexes and counters as a jab...so he did not have to set people up vis a jab...he speed was that.
    Ok I'm sorry

Im not saying Jones is any better than Mayweather p4p, but in a head to head i believe Floyd would have a lot more trouble with Jones style than vice versa.

first off if they fought at a catch weight of welterweight, roy would not have enhanced abilities like you claim he would have.. his speed and power would not be increased, he would be drained and would be a shell of his former self.. so lets just scractch that.. if they were both originally the same weight etc.. then we would have an interesting matchup.. roy may have a a slight edge in athletic ability, but floyd technically was superior and was the smarted boxer and could make adjustments in the fight.. roy was a smart boxer but he relied too much on athletic ability..

if you want to compare resumes i think floyd's resume is better.. Roy has a green bhop, prime toney, Ruiz at heavy and some other names, but floyd's resume and weight division climb and doing it undefeated is better than roy's.. Roy out of his prime has gotten koed twice almost 3 times.. floyd is not his prime anymore and still hasnt lost, even though there was much more of a drop off in prime between the two due to the weight loss effect

good post wink, looking at resumes and accomplishments I have to give the nod to floyd in terms of head-to-head comp throughout their careers, and Roy gets the nod on longevity and title defenses:

Roy Jones Jr. (1988-2004) undefeated for 16 yearsas a pro has defeated 16 former and current world champions in his career. and had over 22 title defenses. besting 5 Hofers.

                      Jorge Castro (WBA middleweight champion)
                      Jorge Vaca (WBC welterweight champion)
                      Bernanrd Hopkins (IBF Middleweight Champion)
Thulani Malinga (WBC Super Middleweight Champion)
James Toney (IBF Super Middleweight Champion)
Vinnie Pazienza (WBA Light Middleweight Champion)
Eric Lucas (WBC Super Middleweight Champion)
                      Mike Mccallum (WBC Lightheavyweight Champion)
                      Virgil Hill (WBA Lightheavyweight Champion)
Lou De Valle (WBA Lightheavyweight Champion)
                      Otis Grant (WBO Middleweight Champion)
                      Reggie Johnson (IBF Lightheavyweight Champion)
                      Julio Gonzalez (WBO Lightheavyweight Champion)
Clinton Woods (IBF Lightheavy weight Champion)
                      John Ruiz (WBA Heavyweight Champion)
                      Antonio Tarver (WBC Lightheavyweight Champion)

Floyd Mayweather jr. (1996-2007) undefeated for 12 years as a pro. Defeated the best fighters in his weightclass moved up and won 4 titles in different weight classes while remaining undefeated..defeated 3 active ring champions during that span. captured three lineal titles

defeated 13 former champions, with 12 title defenses. Also besting 5 potential Hofer's.

Genaro Hernandez (WBC Super Featherweight Champion)
                      Gregario Vargas (WBC Featherweight Champion)
Diego Corrales (IBF Super Featherweight Champion)
Carlos Hernandez (IBF Super Featherweight Champion)
Jesus Chavez (WBC Super Featherweight Champion)
Jose Luis Castillo (WBC Lightweight Champion)
De Marcus Corley (WBO Light Weltwerweight Champion)
Arturo Gatti (WBC Light Welterweight Champion)
Sharmba Mitchell (WBA Light Welterweight Champion)
                      Zab Judah (WBC/WBA/IBF Welterweight Champion)
                      Carlos Baldomir (WBC Welterweight Champion)
Oscar De La Hoya (WBC Light Middleweight Champion)
Ricky Hatton (IBF jr. Welterweight Champion)

my final analysis roy is top 5. and floyd is top 10. floyd's body of work is solid but roiy reigned for 16 years, hard to beat that even with floyd's resume.
