Skills wise,Cotto is probably the best 147-pounder,but right now at 147 you got 2 freaks of nature looming in Paul Williams and Margarito, whos physicality trumps any other top welterweights. Not to mention Clottey, who is the most underated fighter since Winky Wright!

He has fought some of the top guys and it would be astounding for anyone to question his resume. He called Mayweather out but Mayweather obviously didn't want much to do with him at the time. He is a great pressure fighter, a great power puncher and a great boxer overall. I think lately, much more respect should be shown to him than what he has been given. He lost to a great and in-shape fighter in Margarito. It wasn't Cotto who was inneffective but rather Margarito who was effective and he had an iron chin. Without the chin, many question whether he or anyone else could've taken those punches. The only one close to it was Mosley who had such great heart. Show some respect to Cotto. He's still a top welterweight folks...
HE never called out Floyd Mayweather.. He never made an effort to fight that man.. His team rejected the notion of fighting Mayweather on a few occasions.. Cotto is a good fighter, but he is not great.. he has alot to prove in order to do that.

Still the best to me, hope he can avenge the Margarito fight but I prefer if he didn't fought him again

Oh C'mon. Are you serious? You don't remember when Mayweather said that Cotto would not draw many fans and is not a money making fight and that was his "reason" for not fighting him? Cotto was hungry why would he not want to fight Mayweather?

He's got potential to be great, but that might be gone after the Marg rematch. I think Marg is gonna trim some serious time off of Cotto's career.

"Great" is a term we use way to easily. Great is the best of the best all time. You can't just throw that word around because it loses it's real meaning.

Cotto could be agreat at the end of his career but he would have to do a lot of things. He would have to beat Margarito and possibly beat Mayweather if Mayweather comes back which I think he will.

Cotto is still a great fighter. He only have one loss, if he avenge that lost he is in track to be a great fighter again. I laugh at this people, after the Margarito fight everybody is writting him off. And they forget that guys like Leonard, Ali, Robinson, Duran, all have losses. But Cotto skill wise is the best WW as of now,and if he beats Margarito in the rematch is the top dog at WW again. Cotto is one win away from getting to the top, while Margarito is one win from obscurity(not hating on Margarito by any means).Cotto still have it, he looks confident and he still young, and think he will do very good in the rematch with Margarito and he wont lose for next 2 to 3 years. I think he is that good. But ofcourse for the haters he is a overrated bum, who quits everytime and is very chinny!!
