Yeah, it was a shame he got into a lot of negative stuff, to substitute for that adrenaline rush boxing gave him. I think Leonard was just obsessed with giving his best, to the point that when he was knocked down or beaten up a bit, he would get depressed. Hell of a fighter though

Yeah, he got into a lot of stuff he shouldn't have and did some stuff he shouldn't have done but he was definitely a great fighter.

Donny Lalonde, the original "Golden Boy", was a decent if one-dimensional fighter. Strangely, he wasn't that popular back home in Canada. Anyway, he's one of the few boxers who was able to save his money and now makes his home between Vancouver, Canada and Costa Rica.

Hes a disloyal coksucker who did Teddy Atlas dirty,

Hes lucky Atlas didn't kill him, because Atlas was planning on it and even went to Lalonde's apartment to do it but Lalonde wasnt there at the time.

Just watched the 9th round KO by Leonard. Didn't know they were fighting for the Light Weight title along with the newly created Super Middle wieght title at the same time. Apparently Lalonde was defending his Light Heavy weight title and also went down to 168 to meet Leonard for 168 lb title as well. This may have been time when boxing started to become conveluted with all the new divisions and ABC titles.

Leonard wanted to be the first to win 5 titles and then WBC(?) created or jumped the 168 class. Lalonde was victim of a typical Leonard spin having to drain himself to make 168 and get his career payday.

Lalonde had a bad shoulder 'incident' earlier in his career making his left hand next to useless. Fortunately he had a good pop in his right. Good enough to KD SRL.

The fight was pretty entertaining. Leonard showed of some great combos. I especially remember Leonard off the ropes landing a lightning quick 3 punch salvo. 2 bodyshots and a left hook. As I recall the combo was followed by the same combo in reverse this time starting with a right left to the body and a right hook to the chin. Those combos landed so quick that Lalonde didnt move his hands let alone his head.

LOL I see you've read Teddy Atlas' book as well.

Atlas expressed his reservations on taking Lalonde as one of his fighters. He said that Lalonde was too much of a pretty boy and didn't take the sport seriously enough. Lalonde dropped him as trainer and then fought Leonard for the big money.
