I'm of the opinion that if they had happened at the right time, they could have both been classics. Politics got in the way of both though, because you know that all four fighters would have faced anyone given the chance.
      Apart from Joe, yes.

This is my major gripe, this fight should of happened.

So you buy the uneducated myth that Calzaghe is a ducker?

Calzaghe wanted Hopkins all the way back in 2002 and had a deal agreed upon in principle until Hopkins decided he wanted double money. That is ducking. Would a man who ducks fighters really have wanted a piece of Hopkins just after he destroyed Trinidad?

The reason Calzaghe never fought good fighters until the end of his career is Frank Warren. Just like with every other big fighter he has ever promoted, Warren bled Calzaghe dry with meaningless fights in the UK because he wanted total control of the events. Sure you can say Calzaghe should have left him, but I bet you Warren was very persuasive and considering he delievered the title shot he promised Calzaghe straight away upon signing him, I imagine Calzaghe felt he had to show loyalty. Warren only ever lets his fighters fight big names when A) they are going stale - Calzaghe, B) they have reached a limited final potential - Jennings Lockett or C) the public demand it - Hamed. Calzaghe's career wouldn't have gone stale had Warren let him fight decent names earlier.

Hate on Calzaghe for his personality or his fighting style, but don't doubt his fighting spirit.
