    Question regarding Johnny Tapia-Danny Romero

Before the fight Larry Merchant said this:

"What would be unexpected now, given some of the events in recent weeks and months, would be a great fight without incident in or out of the ring."

What did he mean by that?

Also, I hear that the local rivalry was fueled by rival competing gangs, can anyone expound on this?

Yeah THE alledged gang affiliations came into play from what I understand when two guys got into it, one from Tapia's alledgedly former gang and one from Romero's is what I heard about it.

The fight took place on July 18, the only related trouble was when a Southwest Airlines plane, carrying as passengers two members of the gangs the boxers were related to, reported an attempt to fight by those passengers. However riot police in Albuquerque were on alert the whole fight weekend.

I've heard something about rival gangs from separate sides of some city... I can't remember too clearly.

Bottom line... it was gang related.

Oh, the atmosphere in the arena just had the sense of tension, though the prefight ovations were considerably partisan for Tapia.

I just would not want to get on Tapia's bad side, he just seems like a real rough guy.

            How was this fight Ryan?

It sounds like an interesting back story, but... usually fights with interesting back stories are awful, so...

How entertaining was the fight itself?

The fight was very entertaining itself. A lot of spirit on both ends, lots of big punches and both threw in combination. It was fought at a very high skill level with a lot of intensity.

Definitely the best 115 pound fight I've ever seen.
