I just watched an interview taken before the Oscar fight and Freddie had a point.

So do you think weight-lifting tires the muscles out more and that the best way is just to increase things like Protein to pack on muscle. This way, you keep your speed and keep your stamina.

Maybe that was Floyd's problem...he started lifting.

Tyson was said not to have been all that much into the weight-lifting when he was young and with Rooney...but prison time had him lifting. His muscles changed in the way they looked as well despite being only about 5+ pounds over his Prime weight...or what we now consider his prime looking back.

agree with this. boxing requires lean, flexible, muscles. big muscles take too much energy out of guy and makes him tire earlier

roach and manny has been adding on weight perfectly.

        adding muscle doesn't add power.

having to cut less weight on the other hand might and it certainly helps stamina.

look at the difference between the heavyweights of the past and the heavyweights now.

heavyweights now are bigger but not necessarily more powerful. can someone honestly tell me the big 240-250 lb. super heavyweights now hit any harder than a 215 lb. earnie shavers? or 220 lb. george foreman?

they are bulkier and more muscular for sure but i doubt their punching power is much higher. their stamina definitely is much lower. they use to go 15 rounds hard in the old days.....now heavyweights gas punching 25 punches a round.

thsi si what i always say, weight lifting is ****** if you wanna be a great athelete, it makes your muscles bigger(which makes you slower and more rigid) than they have be when really all you need is a good balance/support for your skeleton and your own weight
for optimal performance, anything bigger is pointless and working against you

Floyd was seen lifting weights in the clips with him going to the 24/7 weight training complex in Vegas. How often, not sure.

              what kind of weights though?

heavy weights in short multiple reps will probably be detrimental to a boxer but light weights in long reps probably won't be.

They looked light and he was probably doing reps.

Mackie Shilstone argues otherwise. RJJ looked pretty good going up to heavyweight, as did Hopkins going up to Light Heavyweight. Both followed Shilstone's routine with high-intensity workouts with heavy weights and proper nutrition.

It's not about whether or not you lift weights, it's about how you lift weights.
