Was Taylor really robbed against Ceasar Chavez?

First thing is yes I love JCC and I was always a big fan of the guy. I also felt that the stoppage by Richard Steele was poor but it wasn't the gigantic robbery that everyone says it is. Sure Taylor would have won by split decision but did he really look like the winner in that fight? He went to the hospital after the fight and he took such a beating that he was urinating blood and had a facial fracture. He was never the same after that and the beating ruined his career. So is it really that bad considering that if you had only watched the last round of the fight you would of most likely said "Damn Taylor looks like he got the **** kicked out of him"?

Here is some really good info from HBO on the fight with Arguments from both sides.

    Taylor wasn't robbed.

    Steele made the right call.

Shane Mosley proved in his fight with Mayorga that a final blow can be landed when 5 seconds are left on the clock.

It just depends on one's outlook on it. It's a pretty evenly debated controversy (like Leonard-Hagler), and I can see both sides of the argument.

I would like to point out though that Taylor was still a pretty good fighter after this with some success, even if he wasn't ever the same.

He just took too much punishment in general, both in the ring and probably in the gym, and he took a ton that night against Chavez.

I can't watch the video, Meldrick was a childhood hero of mine.

But the stoppage was bad. Everybody knows it. It was partly Richard Steele's fault, but more to the point, it was Lou Duva's fault. For jumping up on the apron and acting like a damn idiot, which distracted Meldrick while Steele was asking him critical questions.

Meldrick should've won the fight. He was there with Chavez all night long when nobody else with Meldrick's skills would've been. He could've easily outboxed him for a boring UD, but he went toe to toe with him in a war and laid his wellbeing on the line to do so.

The Chavez fight took away everything Meldrick had in him. He was never the same. The least he could've gotten was the personal satisfaction of having his hand raised.

There were less than 2 seconds left in the Chavez/Taylor fight. And Chavez wouldn't have had the time to take a single step before the final bell sounded. He didn't have Mosley like reflexes and speed.

NO he wasn't robbed. He did not respond to Richard Steele. I know there was not much time left. But if a fighter doesn't answer the ref, then the ref has the right to stop the fight.

You could of at least given JCC some props because "he" was the main reason why the events were able to unfold the way he did. Steel didn't send Taylor to the Hospial afterwards and Duva didn't knock taylor down in the last round. Chavez did it!

And it's really class less when people make excuses like "he could of just boxed him to a UD". I could also say over a hundred other fighters could of just outboxed Chavez, but they didn't and they took the same beating that Taylor took that night.
