Evander Holyfield Robbed Blind in Switzerland Disgrace

By Cliff Rold - Nearly a decade ago, Evander Holyfield benefited from a disgraceful draw in his first unification bout with Lennox Lewis universally hailed as one of the worst decisions of the 1990s. A little more than a decade ago, a 48-year old George Foreman was jobbed out of the lineal World Heavyweight championship versus Shannon Briggs in a way which suggested Foreman was no longer wanted on the big stage. Empathy with both Lewis and Foreman should come easy to Holyfield after what occurred at the Hallenstadion in Zurich, Switzerland on Saturday night.

In what may go down as one of the worst decisions ever rendered in a Heavyweight title fight, the 46-year old former Olympian, four-time titlist, and two-time lineal World Heavyweight king Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KO) of Atlanta, Georgia, 214 ½ lbs., landed the cleaner blows and controlled the tempo for most of twelve rounds only to be denied an earned fifth title by judging which could be seen by some as incompetence so epic it validates the decision of so many former fans to stay away from the Sweet Science. It was by no means a great fight; in fact, it was at times downright dull. [details]

I feel bad for Holy, but the whole situation is so ****ty that I dont feel that bad. I mean it was a belt stripped from it's rightful owner because of injury, and Evander absolutely did not deserve a shot at it in the first place.

Why can't boxing just have a American football-like system where you could throw a red flag in to challenge the decision?

            regardless.

Evander is going through a tough time in his life. He worked hard and he got nothing to show for it. Fighting to keep his life sane, he deserved to get the victory. He could have probably let things go knowing he made history. Such a bull**** decision.

That's what I like to see from boxing journos, though.. love that headline. A few more of those and the 'right' people might even start to take notice.

I watched the fight with the commentary off.

Maybe that is why I have a different perspective?

I admit it was a **** fight with a very scared Holyfiled running away from Valuev the whole fight.

I think the reason most of the euro-haters in here think Valuev sucks is because he scares the **** out of just about everyone he fights. So his opponents run away... and 300+ pound guys just don't run as fast. So yeah I guess it makes for a boring fight.

Fact is that you gotta have balls if you are going to win against Valuev.
Chagaev has balls of brass, thats why he can do it.

                  Punches that landed?

                  THAT WAS VALUEV!
                  THAT IS WHY HE WON!

                  Get over it babies!

The reason idiots in here think Evander landed so many shots is because the broadcast kept showing a replay in between rounds where Evander landed one of his few punches from different camera angles from the fuggin second round...

Sober up and watch the fight again and skip the damn Americanized replays, Valuev landed a few more times (check out the uppercuts). He also clearly rocked Evander in the 7th and 8th, Evander never once actually hurt Valuev!

Otherwise, I say the fight should go to the guy who wasn't the obvious *****.
                  WHICH WAS VALUEV!

                  Euro-haters may now resume whining.

This is a bad day for our sport. What Antonio says makes me feel a small bit better about the situation - how much did Evander really deserve the fight, and are we just too romantisiced by the opportunity that was there for him? Anyway a bull**** decision is a bull**** decision, and I don't know if anyone was more pissed off than me.

I knew as soon as Buffer came on screen, he looked off. He was prob disgusted inside...
