How can anyone say Calzaghe never took risks?

    It is not valid to say that Calzaghe's career was based on avoidance of risk. The simple fact is the top level opponent's avoided Calzaghe. Only two were silly enough to call him out, that being Lacy and Kessler, and we all saw what happened to them. Roy Jones admitted, in a BBC interview, to ducking Calzaghe saying that he avoided the fight because he had a "belt to protect." Of course there is another reason that Calzaghe has been one of the most ducked fighters in the history of boxing. He has never been a big draw outside of Wales. Professional boxing is about money. If you can't guarantee your big name opponents the big paycheck, don't expect to get the big fights.

        It's harder for British fighters to make a name for themselves in boxing then Americans/PR/Mexicans.

        It's a hard road.
