As stated preaviously the topic could've read who will be forgotten in 20 years by the casual fan or hardcore boxer fans. If where talking the casual fighter. Very few have made that kinda statement as Ali, Frazier, Robinson, Tyson, ODLH, Holyfield and so on. You would be hard pressed to find a name of considerable stature that any hardcore boxing fan would forget. Every one is quick to point out Joe C. would be forgotten but most hate him and he is most talked about on this forum weather it be good or bad as of late. So there are so many reasons we will remember certain boxers. Some will be remembered for certain reasons and forgotten for others. The question seems like a simple one turns out to be a fairly broad one.

If he could get more he would fight outside of Wales. Truth is he can't which is why he has stayed there fighting bums for 20 years pulling out of all major fight with 'injuries'. Ask anyone in England name one boxer. Guaranteed they will say Khan or Hatton. Calzaghe is not even known in his own country in his prime. He will be long gone in twenty years.

I said "prepare for disappointment" as an answer to those hoping Calzaghe will be forgotten. They are wrong, and appear to lack knowledge on how boxing history works out.

History remembers numbers, such as marciano's 49-0 record. Do we see people arguing about the competition that Marciano faced, or discussing small details, etc? Nope. So why will it be any different for a guy who was a champion for 11 years straight, hadn't lost a fight in 18+ years, and ended up with a 46-0 record?

You don't like it, but this is how it will work out, trust me.

Khan has totally dropped of the radar, even before the Prescott fight the bubble had burst, Calzaghe got nominated for Sports personality of the year.

Bare in mind thats in a year when Britain won the F1, European Cup, a stack of medals at the Olympics and Andy Murray had his best ever year. Calzaghe is on another level entirely to khan.

Ofc being an American you wouldn't know anything about the british public so I'll forgive you.
Nominated? And got nowhere near winning at all. A few biased welsh votes won't help him do fuck all.

Khan will be remembered more than Calzaghe he is more known now and got KO'd. Face it hes a nobody.

It's pretty funny how you try to tell me about the country I live in. Carry on, it's amusing.

Calzaghe fought most of his fights outside Wales.

                  Wrong.

They would say Hatton, Calzaghe or Haye, Khan would only be mentioned by a boxing fan.

All three are regulars on UK talk and entertainment show on the mainstream TV, Khan hasn't done anything like that in 3 years.

                      Billy Dib.

I get the horrible feeling he'll only be remembered for nineteen years. Great shame as he's a warrior.
