    Who is the fighter that...

you would give the best shot at consistently beating Ray Robinson?

Robinson is the favorite against everyone, obviously, but if there was one fighter who could beat him 4 out of 10 times, while everyone else could only manage 3 out of 10, who would it be?

    Ray Leonard?
    Willie Pep?
    Pernell Whitaker?

    Who would you have?

I'd say Henry Armstrong, stylistically, Armstrong gives him a lot of trouble.

Maybe Tommy Hearns. I heard, and this is from Emannuel Steward, so...lol...but, he said he heard SRR actually had trouble with "TALL" fighters. I think he said SRR found this out during sparring or something.

Anyway, if true, Tommy Hearns, as long as he doesn't get caught...which, come on, it's SRR. Tommy's jab would have to be "ON" like it was for SRL.

      That's at 147.

Have to think at 160. There might be more there because SRR would continue to give up size. He was truly a Welterweight. Ah, at 160, Roy Jones Jr to start.

I'm not going to dive into the fighters way back like Langford because I only saw some fights that were a bit shaky.

I have no idea how Armstrong fights... Hell, I have little idea of how Robinson fights. Like Morales with defense is what I imagine... skilled, aggressive, but not there to get hit back really.

Hearns's chin would be the downfall of whatever success he was having against Robinson. Robinson had the power.

He fought like Aaron Pryor, actually I should say that Pryor fought like Henry Armstrong, but Armstrong got the most out of his talent unlike Pryor. Relentless pressure for 15 rounds.

Robinson fought a past prime Armstrong and won easily but the fight may have went differently had the two met in their primes.

Willie Pep was too small to beat Robinson, they fought in the amateurs and Robinson won. They also fought an exhibition when they were both past their prime.

Prime Pep lost to lightweight champion Sammy Angott while Robinson beat him twice, once at LW (non-title fight) and once at WW.

Wow... I watched the tale of Pryor-Arguello today (HBO Legendary Nights) and I was in awe at the way Pryor fought...

Just insane how fast, hard and frequently he punched.

That style would give anyone problems.

Armstrong was a swarmer, constant movement, always coming forward and throwing punches for 3 minutes of every round, deceptively hard to hit while coming forward because of his head movement and good basic defense.

Robinson liked mainly to fight at distance and set his opponents up but he could do almost everything in the ring, he wasn't a great defensive fighter though, I mean he had good defense but he's not on par with the Peps or the Whitakers of the world, great jab that set up a lot of his offense, great footwork etc.

The reason I say he would have trouble with Armstrong is because in his prime, Jake LaMotta beat him and he was slower than Armstrong but probably stronger and while he was out of his prime, he had trouble with the aggressive fighters like Basilio and Fullmer, Turpin gave him a lot of trouble with his awkward aggression as well so I think Armstrong would have given him trouble because Armstrong was a great offensive fighter.

Here's a compilation I made of four Henry Armstrong fights:

Frazier was compared to Armstrong while Ali was compared to Ray Robinson, I believe prime for prime a fight between Armstrong and Robinson would've resembled the Ali-Frazier fights.
