WASHINGTON, D.C.: Filipino icon Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao is capable of exceeding the fame of Mike Tyson, the world’s youngest heavyweight champion.
Veteran American boxing writer Johnny Benz said Pacquiao “may indeed be the next version of Mike Tyson in terms on popularity.”
“I believe as long as Pacquiao remains focused and continues rolling his career in the right direction, and then tomorrow will only bring him more fame and fortune,” Benz wrote in an article for Doghouseboxing.com, a popular US sports website.
He observed that although not an American, Pacquiao has earned a substantial following among American sports buffs on a scale close to Tyson’s phenomenal popularity before he messed up his life and boxing career. [article]
