First off, I want to make myself perfectly clear I do not have anything against David Haye. With that being said. It bothers me to no end that people who state boxing is in bad shape should recognize this fight as part of the problem. What I am saying is, that this reminds me of when Sugar Ray Leonard would pop in and out of retirement to fight title fights. What I asked then I will ask now. What has David Haye done to deserve to fight for the heavyweight title? He beat and over the hill journeyman fighter in Monte, who by the way hurt and put Haye on his butt with a left hand. And anyone who watched that fight and denies that Barrett hit and hurt Haye is in deep deep denial. So does Beating Monte grant Haye a title fight, and if so I sure don't understand why. Let us look at Monte. He was rated at number fifteen by BoxRec and and not anywhere near the top ten of The Ring. And now Haye is magically rated number four by Box Rec by beating him. Please someone inform me just how the hell that happens? So, lets see if I have it straight. David Haye should be able to fight Vitali because he talks a good talk and the fight should not be based on anything he has accomplished in the HW division, right? Alright, now lets take a look at what David Haye has accomplished in the ring. Granted he did unify the Cruiserweight division but he hardly dominated it. He fought a total of nine rounds in two Cruiserweight Championship fights over a span of four and a half months. Hayes first title fight was against an old fighter in Mormeck who was at the end of his career. Who, by the way, suffered his second KO in four fights and has not fought since. His second fight was against Enzo, I am not even going to try to spell his last name. A fighter who's record is not piled high with world class fighters, this is also a fighter who has fought ninety percent of his fights in Cardiff, Wales. So, my question is has Haye ever really been tested even at Cruisrerweight? I found my answer on You Tube. David Haye defended his European Cruiserweight title against the Italian Giacobbe Fragomeni back in 2006. Don't get me wrong Gia must be a world class fighter because he is rated in The Ring's top ten and he is, after all the WBA belt holder. However, he was 32 years old when he began to fight in the pro ranks and he hit Haye with plenty of shots in the nine round fight. I am not going to claim that Gia hurt Haye, he only had nine KOs in twenty one fights at the time, but he hit him and hit him often. My point being, if Gia could hit Haye what makes anyone think that Vitali won't be able to? The fight with Gia was more then two years ago but Haye has only fought a total of fifteen rounds since, so how much could he have possibly learned? In my opinion not much. Now, let us take a look at Vitali. At the very least his win against Peter proved that Vitali did not sit around being a couch potato since he retired. As far as people claiming Byrd KOed Vitali is a pile of BS. The man retired because he tore a Rotator cuff during the fight. The fact is Vitali has never been off his feet as a heavyweight and Haye has been knocked out at cruiserweight. If you want some numbers to think on Vitali has a 92.11 KO% in thirty eight fights and Haye has a 91.3 % in twenty two. And if you want to compare Haye to Holyfield. After dominating the Crusier division Holyfield fought six heavyweights, including two former World Champs in Pinklon Thomas and Michael Dokes, before he challenged Douglas for the HW title. In other words he did it the old fashion way he earned it. In my opinion Haye will only win if Vitali gets old between now and fight time or Haye grows a new chin by June. Other then that it will be Vitali by KO no latter then the six round. In closing I would like to say that I have loved boxing for as long as I can remember and I hope and pray that the sport lives on.
