HBO putting their foot down in 09 - "NO MORE MISMATCHES"

Apparently with the economy the way it is...they are looking for quality fights in 09 and have sent promoters scrambling.

They won't approve Rubio for Pavlik..
They won't approve Jenning for Cotto..
They allegedly rejected Taylor vs Froch (telling Taylor it either Wright or Kessler)
They allegedly told Kessler people it either Dawson or Taylor if he wants back on HBO
They (along with Showtime) rejected Edison Miranda and Allan Green for Andre Ward.
They allegedly informed Winky if he want to keep his 3/14 date....it either Kessler, Abraham, Taylor or Williams...Wright wanted a tune-up first.

HBO is not paying for no more mis-matches

Before Vitali made the deal with Haye, he shopped his fight with Gomez to HBO...they (and Showtime) allegedly rejected the idea. Both networks want the Haye fight.

I'm not sure about that Allan Green vs. Miranda/Green rejection that would be competitive since Ward hasn't fought anybody top10 that is a little strict especially for showtime.

Finally they taking a look how Showtime is doing it with copetitive fights. What they should also do is not sign fighters, and just sign fight by fight this way they can more enforce a tougher match by simply not buying it. And at the same time the top fighters can take more tune ups on espn and keep there skills sharp.

I think they taking Dawson v. Tarver II, i would imagine because Tarver is still the first guy who ko'd Jones Jr.

What used to be bad match ups was when King had a contract with showtime, some of them match were horrable match ups or one sided.

Showtime right now i think shows more competitive fights then Hbo.

I like this. HBO is kicking ass, and rightly so.

I'm not sure if they think those will be mismatches or fighters that people don't know. I'm happy they aren't taking Taylor-Froch, I'd rather see Taylor-Bute but it mentions nothing about that if they like it.
