“2 Fights Away”: Will The Heavyweight Mess Ever Clear Up?

By Jake Donovan - When 2007 became 2008, a rare glimmer of hope graced the heavyweight division. Already in the hopper were four bouts featuring the best six heavyweights in the world, including the division’s first unification match in nine years.

I wish these writers would stop bitching about the heavyweight division.

The champs are no longer American, get used to it and shut up about it.

Is there any meaning in chasing unification bouts?

As soon as the title is unified, the four dominating bodies will come up with four different mandatory challengers, and the title will be divided again.

No one can say Wlad isn't the true champion today. The boxing world would be much better if people didn't pay the alphabets that much respect.

Also, Chagaev-Valuev II means the insane WBA will have their own unification bout. How can you take that organization seriously???

Right, because nobody was bitching about the sorry state of the division when Byrd, Ruiz and Rahman were titlists. A brilliant theory you have.

I have spent the last 11 years rubbing shoulders with boxing fans unknown, famous, and infamous. I've yet to meet a SINGLE American boxing fan that is upset that there are currently no U.S. born title holders. I'm as American as Abe Lincoln and I rallied behind the brothers Klitschko long ago. The HW division is lack-luster and the fighters are not to blame, American or European... like Holyfied said in a current article on Boxingscene, its the promoters, managers, and networks that call the shots. The "We Are The Only One's That Matter" Americans are just as much to blame as the "We Are Supperior In Every Way, Don't You Wish You Could Be Us" Europeans

the only prob with the hw division is that the man regaurded as the best is just not a very exciting fighter to watch, the competition was very lackluster in the tyson era, as well as the lewis era, but at least they won and made it look good, its just that nobody really wants to watch someone throw 30 jabs and 5 right hands a round, its just that wlad is to cautious and it works for him, and you know what they say, if it still works dont fix it. thats why im excited about haye, i hope he lives up to his mouth, that would be great for the hws
