  • Ultimate fighter vs. The Contender

Have you noticed that the participants who get a contract to fight in the UFC are doing a lot better than the boxers on the Contender series. Why is that?

I watched a brief episode of Contender 4. Cruiserweights? They look hella big. Not a lot of them look like they're in tip top shape. Most look chunky in my opinion.

So i'll give props to the fighters on Ultimate Fighter for being successful.

Peter Manfredo? Brian Vera? David Banks? Sakio Bika? Jaidon Corrington?
Alfonso Gomez is probaby doing the most decent out of all of them....and he got whooped on by Cotto.

Because the UFC is a promotion therefore they can afford to match their tuf fighters against anyone they like.

Also, the majority of tuf guys come from the gyms of world champions or other UFC fighters so a lot of them are very very good anyway.

Cause they dont get very good fighters on the contender usually.

And the Contender show isnt nearly as good. Its production value is higher, but thats not what fans want to see. The fights are way to watered down and devoid of action. It is not a good show.

Ultimate Fighter shows the entire fight and has some actual interesting **** happening during the episode

because boxing is a harder craft
takes more time to develop actual skills

The Contender should go after guys who could be stars, like Olympians and amateur World Champions. Instead they get no name journeymen fighters who won't make it big and they try to make every fight look like a scene from Rocky.

What show would you rather watch? For me, i like watching the training sequences on Ultimate, but i like following current events on Contender.

Ultimate Fighter has too much drama on it. Grown men acting like little girls. That's the part i don't like.

Basically thats true. Remember Forrest Griffin was a pro fighter upon entering that show. The guy started in 2001 and didn't go on that show until 2005

Also MMA is a much MUCH younger sport than boxing and therfore it would only make sense that the sport and talent still hasn't reach its potential. Its at least 10 years before we see that...boxing is far older and has far less pieces to the puzzle.
