alot of things:

- hes welsh for one so the brits were a bit slow to get behind him, compared to other brit boxers like hatton, prince, benn, bruno. none of these fighters are as good as joe but theyre huge following meant that they were more likely to be picked by US fighters as they could at least bring in some dough.

- the style, even as a joe fan i can see why ppl would hate his style and say he is a slapper

- personality - out of the ring he isn't a hatton or prince, joe is pretty much a regular joe.

You just summed up why Calzaghe doesnt have as many fans as other boxers. He has the personality of a cardboard box. And have you ever considered that Prince Naseem, Ricky Hatton and Nigel Benn were all much more exciting to watch, hence why they had a better following?

And in my honest opinion, Naz, Hatton and Benn are all better boxers than Calzaghe. He's a great fighter but he really has taken an easy route to build his legacy.

hell no im a joe fan but no way does he deserve a no 1 spot for beating jones. personally i think if you were to break down their styles and look at the fighters and completly disregard their resumes then joe slightly edges out pacman, but as soon as you include their resumes then anyone has to admit that pacman takes it with a margin.

joe took the fight with RJJ as it was one of the only fights left that truly motivated him.

I don't hate him, but i sure do hate his fans overrating him claiming he should be P4P #1 because he beat Jones.

With all due respect my man, I don't think any Calzaghe fan who knows what he is talking about rates him P4P #1 because of Jones. Please. Stop making stuff up to back up a weak argument.

The Jones win isn't all that significant. It's a good name to have on your resume, but come on man, don't insult our intelligence so much. Joe was rated well before he fought Jones.

Calzaghe isn't liked by a lot of fans because of his style..He's like that kid playing the fighting video games that does the same move over and over and over and over and keeps winning and winning and winning..And people who really know how to play the game keep losing to but dont know ****ing why..If he stuck around a few years there are and WILL BE fights out there for him to solidify himself and a nice resume but he doesn't wanna take that risk...I say some good fights for him down the line are Dawson, Pavlik, Paul Williams (i think he will move up in weight fast) Jermaine, Adamek, Ward, Abraham, and a few more, I dont think he can do what Hopkins is doing so late in his career because he relies on workrate and i think once he finds someone who can keep pace itll be a DLH Pac like encounter for him

its true hes a pretty boring guy compared to someone like eubank or naz. but thats what i like about joe he doesn't want that fanfare and hype he just wants to get on with what he does best which is winning. hes not very good at self promotion unlike some fighters like haye or naz.

but come on you honestly think that if you were to look at their traits their p4p strength, power, speed, chin and stamina or their skill set, will to win, ring IQ and determination then any of the other british boxers comes close?

i suppose most british boxers would beat joe in the power rankings but in literally every other department he is better, a couple of UK fighters may rival him in terms of speed (haye, naz,) but thats about it. for a LHW/SMW he has unbelievable stamina and output, a great chin and his ring generalship/boxing IQ is the best in the world right now.
