Why does everyone make it out like he would beat Roy Jones if he wasn't weight drained, or Hopkins or Calzaghe?

All three of those posses Toney's biggest weakness - Too much footwork.

Toney is great if you're a fighter who will lean on his chest and try to slug it out with him but I refuse to believe he could beat any of those three, his work at heavyweight is irrelevent as his style is suited to it (even Roy Jones said this).

no he didnt. sure Nunn landed some... but no bruises on toney's face, never showed the effect of those punches during the fight... why? just look at the fight again. it's called rolling. it's called slipping. it's called defense. you are excused because they don't teach those things in uk.

          It's called losing.

          He was losing handily.

Toney in shape would have caused Jones some serious problems because of his fast hands and infighting, but i still think he (Roy) would have pulled out a close but unanimous decision though, because he was simply too fast and his hand speed would always be a night mare for James.

I would favor Toney at his best over Hopkins AND Calzaghe. Bernard never matched well against fighters with good hand speed that had more than one way of winning, and prime Toney could not only box but he could out fight Bernard on the inside without much problem and just land the cleaner punches the way Taylor did.

Calzaghe would run into even bigger problems. Toney had the tools to exploit his bad balance( see Toney/Jirov) and those defensive flaws that he has. Toney's favorite punch is the counter right hand off of the shoulder roll and I'm not sure if Hopkins or Jones missed one time with their right, and Toney could punch.

I have Toney's autobiography, and it stated that he and Hopkins was signed to fight at a catch weight around the late 90's, but Bernard turned the fight down shortly after. The thing about Hopkins is that he is not a dumb man, and he would not turned down a huge pay day and paper view event if he didn't think Jame's would have been a bad style match up for him.

more like nard knew even with the style advantage, toney was a threat because of his overall skilll...because honestly, toney's in ring lazyness is very exploitable by a guy who moves a lot.....and i refuse to believe nard is man enough to not run like a deer against a terrific infighter like toney....

Toney would have cut the ring off and brought the fight to him, and he is strong enough to not allow Bernard to get away with out muscling him on the inside and using dirty tactics. Don't forget that Toney is an ''old school'' fighter himself, and he knows tricks also.
