First of all neither follow boxing closely...my supervisor says he knew Oscar would get beat really bad, easy to say after the fact. Later the co-worker says Bernard Hopkins said that Mayweather was dodging him, when I heard that I knew I was dealing with the most casual of fan who didnt understand weight classes nor the fact that Hopkins never said such a thing.

The co-worker went on to say Ali was the greatest he ever saw, its his opinion so I couldnt argue, but chances are he didnt see much of Ray Robinson and probably never heard of Henry Armstrong or Willie Pep, so I kept quiet. Hey at least they are talking boxing.
If you guys think Wille Pep is one of the all time greats because what you heard of him...Then you guys
need to actually watch some of his fights on youtube...and look at his record...
Wille Pep was a slick boxer for his time no doubt about it..and Plus he was Italian, in a time when The Italian Mob boses ran boxing. So you could imagine the hype he most of had surrounding him, he was like to the Italian's "One of Us".
If you look at the Lateral Movement of boxers of that time they were all mostly up and down with their movement and footwork.
Pep to his credit, Learn how to get the **** out the way. But The guy had no power and got hit with **** Pernell Whitaker,Naseem Hamed,or Floyd Mayweather would have never been hit with. I mean you can see the punches coming from a mile away on tv and pep was still getting hit with it... I was amaze when I actually sit down and watch pep fight. and back then he would mostly fight in 6 round and 10 round fights...he fought some 15 rounds fights...but not alot...
to be fair, I will say the fights i saw of him of youtube were
    not his best work..

Wille Pep IMO would get savagely beaten if he would have fought in the 70s or 80's with fighters like Salvador Sanchez fighting. Because
He could not with stand Pressure and in Sandy Saddler 3 wins over Pep out of 4 fights...what did him in was the pressure.
I watch these fights so i am speaking from what i saw with my own eyes...

Great Post. I completely agree. I think most people mention fighters like pep because they want to sound like they know boxing history. What you guys need to understand is that these older fighters had cruder, less developed ideas on training, diet and technique.

You think a Joe Louis could hang with even a James Toney? No way. You think Pep could even challenge a guy like Pacquiou? As Horus said. Just look at the tapes. This "Old school toughness" can only stand for so much...

Yeah they aren't the only ones talking about that fight. Heard a couple of guys on spanish TV talking about a possible fight between the two and even my parents talking about the prospect of the fight.

All they really seem to know is that Margo is the man at weltewerweight so why not make a fight between the two? They don't really seem to understand the difference in size and the marketability of the fight.. but hey, as long as they're talking boxing it's all good.

Worst thing I've ever heard is a guy telling me that the greatest fight he ever saw was between Marciano and Jack Dempsey. I let it slide though as I'd already corrected him earlier about some other ignorant **** he said. Obviously a casual fan so no need to make him look ****** twice. = )

Same here, I didn't mind them talking about it, despite their nonsense talk.

The thing about boxing is - people really enjoy watching it. They get pumped for the big fights. Which is why I always think boxing could improve its popularity immensely if they marketed more aggressively.

People aren't bored of boxing, they're just not hearing about it enough.
Oh yeah I agree. The average joe can get prety pumped up over a fight they think is going to be good so boxing isn't exactly dead in the water. If boxing can somehow get it's **** together I bet they'd attract a lot of mainstream attention again. That's a big 'IF' though because right now I don't see the sport doing much of anything to do just that.

Hey, I`m a hardcore fan and I thought Oscar was going to get beat real bad.

I just kept re watching de La Hoya - Forbes and Pacquiao vs. Diaz.

I also listened to Freddie Roaches and Nacho's points as to why their fighter would win, and looking at the Forbes fight it was obvious that Roaches points were more solid.
