do you think wrestling (as in intercollegiate wrestling) is for ****sexuals?
it's one thing to say you don't like mma, or you don't get the same enjoyment out of watching mma as you do boxing. that's how it is with me, though i do like mma. but these blanket statements are pretty ridiculous and do nothing for your argument that boxing is better than mma.Comment

Jeezus!!! Can we please stop having these debates about boxing vs. UFC. Which is better? I feel like i've been having this debate forever. I can get a PHD from all the discussions i've had pertaining to MMA and boxing. OMG....we all know. Aiite? Anyone who knows anything about fighting and has minimal intellegence will just know. I jsut had another discussion about this last night at the stable. *yawn*
MMA fighters respect boxers; boxers respect MMA fighters. It's that simple.Comment

You are missing the entire point of this conversation. It's not supposed to be about which is better.... its about people giving only one sport a chance to decide what they like (not that they have to choose one over the other).
You are talking about a select group of people when you are talking about people who know fighting. Of course fighters respect each other... I am talking about the rest of the public who don't know what they are talking about. They buy into whatever they hear on TV, and what is being propagated is that UFC is superior to boxing. It is the cool thing to say. Talk to anyone in a younger generation and see if they have ever seen a boxing match. I recently just went back to university and not a single kid I know has seen boxing beyond Oscar De La Hoya or Mike Tyson.Comment

Well i don't expect too much from your average shmuck on the street. A good percentage of strangers have poor intellegence, so i'm pretty sure that MMA would be more appealing to the uncivilized. Non-fighter i'm referring to.
I'm always going to applaud boxing. I still remember the very first time i watched a UFC fight (i was like 12 or 13) and i remember thinking, what the hell is this *****? Boring!! So from the get-go MMA never appealed to me. Even during the primative stages of UFC when the fights were crazier.Comment

The thing is, if they can't appreciate the fine art of it, they can still appreciate the exciting side. There are sooo many flashy boxers out there that can appeal to their tastes. People LOVED mike Tyson for that reason. Show those people a glimpse of Joan Guzman, Manny Pacquiao, James Kirkland, Gamboa, Victor Ortiz, Berto... man.. the list is basically endless. These people can't help but catch your attention.
Boxing appeals to more than just the intellectual crowd. We just need a way to show people that they exist. Start plugging in highlight videos from fights each month and I doubt these people will still argue that boxing is boring. People will then know who to watch to get what they want out of the sport.Comment
