No, he's done a great job bringing in more fans, especially females, to boxing. But he's lost all of his biggest fights and regardless of what his record is, he should have lost 6 fights. (I had him beating Mosley and Trinidad but losing to Quartey and Sturm). And now he ended his career getting trashed by a guy that had no business ever being in the ring with him sizewise. The size disparity alone and the fact that Oscar couldn't win what should have been an easy fight proves, in case we didn't already know, that he is not a great fighter at all. This loss knocked him clear out of my top 10 of the last 20 years.

I hear you, but the man almost singlehandedly carried the sport of boxing for the past 10+ years.

He's the biggest draw in boxing history.

We all know that big money comes from casual fans, not hardcore boxing fans.

He's brought more casual fans to the sport than any fighter in history. Regardless of his record, people always tuned in to see this man....and they were willing to pay their hard earned money to do so.

and he milked that draw for every cent. anybody remember the Yory Boy Campas fight? look, Oscar is a businessman first and ended his career with a bull**** fight that he actually LOST. I truly think this loss to Pacquiao tarnishes his career. I mean I'll never think of him the same for losing to a lightweight that he had such huge physical advantages over.

there's a laundry list of things that piss me off about oscam

                the track meet against tito

the body shot (?) against hopkins

                the 2nd chavez fight

the calling out of the margarito-cotto winner, which he did a 180 on as soon as margarito's hand was raised

the poaching of JMM's rightful opponent in PAC

and to top it off, the quitting on the stool....

Oscam will make for a great promoter when he finally lets go of the spotlight...as for now, the half and half gig is getting old

@Double, don't stress too much, at least its not real money !

                  @Makaveli..

Do people really hate it when a fighter 'quits on his stool' ?

I mean, I understand the whole warrior concept and fighting until the death, but this is unrealistic, and barbaric.

And actually, it was his corner's decision to have the fight stopped, which was done rightfully so, as it is their responsibility, above anyone elses, including the ref, to stop the fight if at any time their fighter's health is in danger.

This was clearly a case where their fighter was in danger, and had absolutely no chance of winning. So they made the right choice, IMO.

The aftermath of brutal beatings is so severe, there is no sense in risking it.

Sure, not everyone is going to like him.

But if you truly are a fan of the sport, you have to appreciate all that he's done for boxing.

Like I said, I'm far from his biggest fan, but the way some people are talking about him is just insane.

                    Like what?

Make PPVs out of Campas and Mayorga fights?
Call for investigations when the scores don't go his way?
Have every single advantage in his favor?

                      Please explain this.

He is practically the Michael Jordan of boxing, in terms of bringing the sport into the mainstream, and casual fans to the sport, at least in our generation.
You stay making dumb ass comments about everything.

Bringing the sport into the mainstream?

The sport was more mainstream before there ever was an Oscar De La Hoya.
