Enzo aims to be king of cruisers

    Enzo enzo enzo
enzo maccarinelli admits he would consider moving up to heavyweight — but first he must realise his cruiserweight dream.
The swansea fighter returned to action for the first time in nine months last saturday as he brushed aside heavyweight matthew ellis inside two rounds.
Though that bout was arranged at the last minute because of the withdrawal of three fighters, maccarinelli came out of it with credit as he showed no ill effects of his defeat to david haye in march.
Since that setback, haye has moved up to heavyweight and is looking to the rule the division.
But talk of maccarinelli making the step up so soon was put on the shelf by the 28-year-old.
He admits it is something that interests him and, having already beaten seven heavyweights in his career, it could be a viable option.
But, for now, becoming the wbo cruiserweight champion and then cleaning up the rest of the division is firmly on his mind.
"i would consider moving up to heavyweight in the future," said maccarinelli.
"matthew ellis wasn't the first heavyweight i have faced, so that was nothing new to me.
"i was comfortable throughout my previous fights against heavyweight, but as you know, i have a mission to clear up the cruiserweight division first and that is my plan.
"i have a lot of work to do and it's about continuing the hard work in the gym and then doing the business in the ring.
"i am as determined as ever to be the best in the cruiserweight division.
"i could also feature at light-heavyweight too, but for the moment this is where my future lies."
maccarinelli has also talked about his admiration for combat sport of a different nature.
A big fan of ultimate fighting championship and mixed martial arts, maccarinelli admits he is tempted by the sport.
Having trained in jujitsu, he has already got a taste of it.
But he confirmed boxing will remain at the top of the order.
''i do enjoy the ufc and the sport of mma in general," he added.
"i'm quite a big follower of it but boxing will always be my number one.
"i've been to some of the events and it is quite exciting. I've done some jujitsu in the past and i wouldn't rule it out totally.
"but boxing is what i want to focus on right now."
