    "Boxing is a dying sport"

    Joe Calzaghe speaks out:

"Globally - in America for instance - you've got UFC, which has taken a lot off boxing business-wise. There is too much politics in boxing. Too many belts and too many champions, which dilutes real champions like myself. There are four world champions in each division and it's bad because there are no stars any more. It's a big problem. I think boxing is a dying sport."

I have a lot of respect for Calzaghe but I hate it when athletes say things like this when they retire. They hate the idea of the sport going on without them, which it will.

If there weren't as many dvisions and belts calzaghe would have never been a champion.

I agree with you there. The sport will go on with out you Joe. Just because you don't have mass appeal to all boxing fans doesn't mean the sports dying.

Calzaghe is a dying fighter. Ive always liked Calzaghe as a fighter, but some of the stuff he says nowadays just irritates me.

how can boxing possibly be dying when you look at the popularity of fighters like Khan, Haye and Hatton in Britain? and if he means the USA, how can boxing be dying there when theres fights like De La Hoya Pacquiao, De La Hoya Mayweather, Mayweather Hatton which got near or over 1 million ppv buys?

give me a break Calzaghe. I hate to say it, but youre just being a baby because your ppv buys for the Jones fight were terrible compared to what Pacquiao got.

Calzaghe thought people are fools to believe that this is still the 2000 Jones and the legend he will fight.. Now he saw he is the fool.
