First of all, boxing will never die. It's historically cemented in the international wide world of sports. The only question(s) is how popular will the sport become. And how many fans will follow boxing.

Personally, i have always loved and will forever continue to love boxing.

Everything has peaks and valleys. I think the boxing world might pick up a little in 2009.

Could the ass whoopin DLH took be the tide that turns boxing into mainstream once again?

I don't really see the problem with what he said, think about it most of the top names in boxing are 30+

before anyone says but Manny's 29 he's 30 this month.

Back in the 80's & 90's you always had big name boxers in their 20's & 30's now its a bit of a struggle. Look at the 175 div barring Chad all the other top names are 34+. The welterweights its only Punisher, Berto & Cotto who are names that are under 30 and the latter is the bigger name of those 3.

Obvously there is alot of talent coming thru but alot of them are gunna need time to come thru so there will be a gap from when the stars of the late 90's and this decade go till the young bucks comes thru.

Just look at the H/W division, love him or hate him everyone is hoping David Haye can bring sme glamour back to the division instead of watching the Eastern European Chess masters beat up overweight bums.

LONDON -- Joe Calzaghe believes boxing is on the ropes, with too many champions and few real stars.

Still weighing whether he'll retire after beating Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. this year to remain unbeaten in 46 fights, Calzaghe said Wednesday he was glad he was almost on the way out of the sport instead of just starting out.

"I think boxing is a dying sport. Globally -- in America for instance -- you've got UFC, which has taken a lot off boxing, business-wise," Calzaghe said, referring to the mixed martial arts Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The Welshman who held the WBO super middleweight world title for more than 10 years before moving up to light heavyweight to fight Hopkins and Jones also said boxing has its own problems.

"There is too much politics in boxing, too many belts and too many champions, which dilutes real champions like myself," he said. "There are four world champions in each division and it's bad because there are no stars any more. It's a big problem."

Calzaghe also noted that the United States won only one medal at the Beijing Games -- a bronze by heavyweight Deontay Wilder -- which points to a grim future for American boxing.

"America only had one medalist in the Olympics this year," Calzaghe said. "In Britain, we did pretty good, but I'm glad I'm ending my career and not starting it because I don't think it's going to be that great in the future."

It's too easy to bash this clown. I wont' bother. Instead just warning you, you've open the floodgates for a lot of Calzaghe fanboy/crybabies to attack you. Enjoy.

Maybe boxing is dying because of a guys that are boring to watch, who have no power on their slaps, stay in far away countries and fight trash competition, and just act like asses all the time. Sounds like someone I know. Maybe Joe is jealous that people now know who Manny Pacquaio is and no one really has ever cared or will ever care if Joe Calzaghe retires or fights again. Spot on mate.
