Joe Calzaghe is absolutely right! Too many champs too scared to fight each other and way too much politics.. About him saying he's a real champ, I can only say I like his confidents

Joe has achieved 1000 times more than any of you guys will ever achieve in your lives.

SMW Champs by way of Boxrec:

            WBC

Robin Reid - Beaten by Calzaghe

Malinga - Beaten by Woodhall who Calzaghe beat.

            Woodhall - Beaten by Calzaghe

Lucas - Beaten by Kessler who Calzaghe beat

Beyer - Beaten by Kessler who Calzaghe beat, drew with Bika (many people had Bika ahead at the time) who Calzaghe beat,

Sanavia - Beaten by Beyer who was beaten by a guy Calzaghe beat.

            IBF

            Brewer - Beaten by Calzaghe.

Sven Ottke - CONTROVERSY. Should have lost one of the SD's to Brewer, should have lost to Mitchell and potentially should have lost to Reid.. also very close against David Starie. In my view and the view of many, Ottke lost at least 2 of the above 5 fights. If not 3-5 of them. All the fighters mentioned? Beaten by Calzaghe convincingly, even Robin Reid who got a whack job SD (go review the fight, Calzaghe had that fight won comfortably)

            Lacy - beaten by Calzaghe

Berrio - Beaten by Poras who was beaten by Kessler who Calzaghe beat

Lucian Bute - Undefeated but won't face Kessler.

            WBA

Liles - Beaten by Mitchell who Calzaghe beat, also pulled out against Calzaghe

            Mitchell - Beaten by Calzaghe

Girad - Drew with Mitchell who Calzaghe beat, refused rematch with Siaca and was stripped of title.

Mundine - beaten by Kessler who Calzaghe beat

Siaca - Beaten by Kessler who Calzaghe beat

            Sven Ottke - see above

            Kessler - beaten by Calzaghe.

So, Sven Ottke, Girad and Bute remain the only guys who haven't either been beaten by Calzaghe or beaten by a guy Calzaghe beat.

Bute is the only one of that trio who doesn't have controversy surrounding him, although he's refusing a match with Kessler.

Can any other champion of this era show such a dominance over their division by having a majority of ex champions either be beat by him or beaten by someone he beat?

Now you're starting to see why Calzaghe is considered to have a great career by those that know something.

Now shut the **** up you disease ridden ****.

HAHA people wanna hate on Joe for no god damn reason now dont get me wrong im a fan of Joe's but I dont hate him like most people on this board seem to. It seems like anything he says someone will hate on him for, he could say he took a **** today and somebody would hate on that "ohhh the nerve of Joe, taking a **** in the middle of the day... what a arrogant prick, he didnt beat anyone he dosent deserve to take that ****." Get over it people theres nothing you do about it you can ***** moan groan and complain all you want that "he never fought anyone" it isnt going to change anything. On for the comments Joe made about boxing... y'all are well aware thats exactly what people have been saying on these boards for a long time now right? Everyone knows that boxing is in a bit of a slide right now hell look at the fights this month Pacman v ODLH considered to be a huge mismatch and ODLH fights once a year as is then later this month you got Valuev vs Holyfield... cmon seriously? Then you have the whole Marg Mosley PWill situation on whose duckin who and how much money will be involved and ohhh im the bigger draw... no im the bigger draw. And then the guy that most everyone wants to see fight is "RETIRED."

Maybe those here who aren't complete bloody idiots can at least be honest with themselves. When I was a kid (I'm 43 now) if you asked your friends, teachers, relatives or whoever if they had seen the "big fight" the night before virtually all of them would know what you were talking about, and who won, whether they were fans or not. Moving on a few years, half the people you talk to might have known about fights involving the likes of Eubank, or Bruno. These days, though, 8 out of 10 would be oblivious to even something like the Hatton Mayweather fight. The hardcore fans are still there but the profile and interest among the wider public just isn't there. Boxing may not be "dying", but if it doesn't address that problem it's in deep trouble as without that depth of interest even the hardcore starts to dry up eventually.

Regarding the 50s, that's actually out of context in that the major problem then wasn't competing sports or general lack of interest, but corruption. That is about the only thing that has got better.. boxing is now only a 'bit dodgy' on occasion, fifty years ago the mob (of whatever nationality) owned it and thirty years ago corrupt promoters owned it. Now they just think they do.

I could agree with that, but he did take on Kessler who i think is good, and eventhough he beat Hopkins (which i scored a draw) he took him on...I do think he should have fought more peeps that were a challenge to him instead of picking on blokes who were in his backyard...

Agreed, Hat Calzaghe if you want too, I'm sure he doesn't care, but listen to what he actually said and it's hard to deny that unless boxing undergoes some major changes it's going to become a forgotten and untelevised sport by the vast majority of the wider public, and no matter what hardcore fans believe, without the wider public, Boxing dies.

boxing will never die. it has its up and down years like any other sport. either way Calzaghe didnt help the situation with his bull**** resume' full of bums and journeymen then two 40 year olds. afterwards refusing to fight chad dawson. i almost stop reading the artical when he call himself a "real champion"
