Boxing Fans/MMA Fans..Do you agree with this?

I do know Arum is trying to get boxing back on the networks which would be great, especially with some of the guys fighting for Top Rank. The UFC might also get network tv in the next few years. I think EliteXC on CBS was not good for mma in general.

EliteXC definitely did not appeal to the general consensus... I mean it did for a short while..but after having kimbo lose on national TV... i'm sure the majority was thinking....WTF?

This has been said many times before, but MMA is a fad.

Yep....the entire sport is just going to vanish. All the countless fighters trained in MMA will all just vanish...all the MMA gyms will disappear, all the karate schools now started teaching MMA instead of Karate will all just go away..... Sure it will.

I think mainstream MMA would disappear for a while in the U.S. because I'm sure television networks will think that "if the UFC can't make it big, then we don't want any other MMA orgs."

I think MMA in other places like Japan will probably take advantage of it because MMA is still quite popular there.

MMA ppvs are mostly about people wanting to see the UFC. Fighting should always be about the fighters and not about a logo or organization. That is the big difference between MMA and Boxing. Hatton can sell out Wembley stadium while Arlovski, Fedor, Sylvia and others cant even push the AFFLICTION PPV past the 100 thou marker(i dont even think they came close to a 100). If the UFC folds, MMA is as good as dead. If Oscar retires, there will always be somebody to take his place.

Not sure about the replacement for Oscar though. We had two superstars in boxing; Oscar and Tyson.. now that they've both gone down who is there really to replace them? and with the way boxing is going these days who's to say we can ever have a mainstream star again? I just don't see one out there.

I wasn't talking about MMA as a whole...but I was talking about the f@ggots that wear Affliction shirts that act all tough and all that.... MMA is here to stay.. I understand taht...but most of it's fans come from TUF era and thinkin they can fight..

there's always other avenues like going to primetime networks. if boxing was shown on primetime tv and advertised on primetime networks, practically all the big champs would be household names. back when boxing was on abc, tyson and leanord fights made front page on papers.

at the end of the day, people love to see fights so there will always be a demand for it. boxing is much more marketable to mainstream than mma is due to violence in mma. knockouts, and slugging it out will always have a demand. had manny and de la hoya previous fights before on primetime channels, their ppv probably would've been a lot more as well (not that it was bad).

First off from Johnson,Dempsey,Louis,Marciano,Ali,Leonard,Tyson,D LH and soon to be ??? Bottom line history repeats itself it another fighter always comes along to captivate people. Boxing will be fine. Boxing has been "so called dying" forever.

As far as MMA just my opinion but I think it's peaked and will be in trouble within the next few years. The ultimate fighter has had record low ratings lately along with TUF and UFC's only star now is lesnar. Silva considered a star by UFC got only 300k PPV's on his last show so that doesn't bode well. The thing is Boxing has history the UFC DOESN'T so we don't know what the future holds for it. The most troublesome thing for UFC is it's primary fanbase is young white males 18-30. So in 5 years is that same young guy who's now 34 gonna be wearing an affliction t-shirt and attending UFC events? Thats the major question

Agreed. If boxing was streamed to the regular TV networks it would lilkely have a big revival because the sport really is prety great to watch they just need to promote it better as a whole.

All this can happen, but I'm not sure it ever will happen. There needs to be a big push by name fighters or by promoters to try and get fights back on network TV, but I'm just not sure that anyone will ever step up to do it.

anyways, if the UFC does manage to fold... MMA will surely be dead in the US..but there will be a lot of demand from angry fans .. the only people I can think of with a lot of $$ to start up a secure organization are Lorenzo bros/Dana white..and the Affliction dude...

If Oscar retires, then yeah there will be someone to replace him..that they could build up.

a lot of those ppv came from wwe fans i imagine... what is ufc gonna do next... sign hulk hogan and macho man???
