I do believe this fight was a set up. I mean it's pretty obvious if you really step back and think about it without being bias. i don't think it was De la hoya's idea that he lose but nmore likely HBO's. HBO has been desperate to find its next superstar and after cotto and pavlik got beat they were screwed. This fight was a set up to make that next super star.
De la hoya has always fought the best competition, even if he didn't beat the best he fought the best. So why all of the sudden would he fight a guy that we all knew had no chance of beating him because of the size difference. HBO is the one that started talking about this fight months ago and they talked about it long enough that the casual fan started believing that this fight would be competitive.
I understand that fighters get shot but for the la hoya to get so shot that he forget any common sense is just ridiculous. He didn't throw jabs, block any punches, find his range, clinch, move, come forward or anything that a gold medalist would know how to do.
The fact that people are saying pac is now agreat boxer are delusional. Sure he had head movement but nothing that couldn't be timed. He foot work was about the same as always just jump in a get out. He wasn't turning de la hoya like every one says he was. If you watch the fight it looks more they trying to make it look like he is boxing but its so poorly done that it looks like manny is do some choreographed dance. He would jump in, throw some punches, step back, wait a coupe seconds and then turn. It was a joke. He has never been a boxer and now everyone believes that overnight roach taught him how to box better than Mayweather?
The whole evening seemed very strange. Emanual steward was not himself. He always said manny didn't have a chance and then all of a sudden he acts like this was what was expected. You can always tell with these guys When they are in shock of what is going on in a fight. Just like in the pavlik hopkins fight, cotto margarito, and even going as far back as chavez taylor. When there is an upset going on they freeze up with silence. In this fight they didn't act surprised at all. They acted as if it was expected almost. This was a HUGE upset and they barely made note of that.
Pac deserves credit for his great accomplishments but HBO gets the credit for this win of his. HBO made De la Hoya and they just asked him to return the favor after all these years, to help keep them afloat after he leaves the sport.Comment

there are easier ways of fixing a fight than letting your ass get savagely beat for 8 brutal rounds....Comment

There was no other way that de la hoya could've lost that would've been convincing. He had to come out and look like he was 45 years old. manny would never be able to box him. It couldn't have been a great war because any decent shot could've stunned pac. This the only way that he could've lost without making it look like set up. Sure he probably took more pnches than he wanted but took every shot well. He just made sure he kept getting hit on the left side so that the swollen eye would look more severe.Comment

Styles make fights. Juan Manuel Marquez is a much better boxer-puncher IMO than Oscar Delahoya. Pac was somewhat one dimensional when he fought Erik Morales the first time. He has improved alot since then. Oscar probably starved himself to make the 147 weight limit and was probably as weak as Tarver was when he got his beating from Hopkins.Comment
