Why is everybody writing off Miguel Cotto?

For all we know, he could avenge his loss and we could have a great welterweight triology. And 30 years from now, Margarito/Cotto will be featured on HBO's Legendary Nights.

That's how great fighters are made, making each other great from triologies.

Unless you're Roy Jones or Mayweather, and you go on to win a gozillion multi titles, dominating 90% of your opponents.

Cotto Margarito was not remotely competitive.

I think very very highly of Cotto, I just think he fought the one guy in his class and era he should have avoided.

I will sign it right here, I have not written Cotto off at all. In fact I want to be able to say "I told you so" if/when he wins the rematch with Margarito. Cotto is a multitalented, strong willed adaptable fighter. He isnt the fastest guy in the world, and his chin is less than iron, but outside of those things he is the complete package.
Cotto's ability to adapt will have a large effect on the rematch, he very well could take a decision next time out.

Not remotely competitive? Cotto won the first five or six rounds. He also was landing bombs on Tony better than just about anybody has throughout the fight.

Cotto can still go on to become a very great fighter but I doubt he could ever beat Margo. He just isn't strong enough to compete with the guy on the inside and he isn't a good enough boxer to keep away from Antonio for a full 12 rounds. My guess is he'd be KOed much sooner in a rematch because Margo already knows that Cotto can't hurt him so he'd be going into the fight with guns blazing from the start this time.
