No one said that Manny beat a prime Oscar De La Hoya. And anyone who thinks that we've even seen a prime Oscar De la Hoya in the last couple of years is no better than you.
If he was so shot gone dead, then why didn't we hear any detractors of the fight coming from Oscar's side ? No one complained about him being shot before seeing the fight result.
Manny thoroughly dominated a far past prime Oscar De La Hoya, and did it with his most viable asset and the attribute that has most clearly depleted in Oscar over the years: his speed.
Oscar's side would never say it; they would lose money. I doubt they also saw the weight-loss coming into effect since if they did, they wouldn't have made the fight at 147. But that is why you have Freddie, who was with Oscar and said Oscar was past it.
The Weight, in my opinion, pushed him over the limit. At 154, I wouldn't call him shot; just, past his prime.
But I liked what I saw from Manny; INCREDIBLE. The Man is exciting and I'm glad he is able to continue to improve somehow despite moving up in weight. He's going to keep boxing alive.

And what I'm saying is that prime vs prime, Manny would win since Manny seems like he loves fighters like Oscar/David Diaz style where they come forward and try to land there punches while Manny moves left and right dodging there punches and countering.
That would be the Oscar that fought EPO-Shane at 147.
I don't even think Freddie thinks that. He took the fight because he knew where Oscar was at right now...he said that was the reason he took the fight.

And aren't you a huge Floyd Mayweather fan, I bet you won't admit that is what Freddie Roach just said.
The problem I had with Floyd, especially in the Oscar fight, as well as the Hatton fight, is that he NOW only does enough to win...where before he went out from the first round to win. He has become a more cautious fighter now. The article right before the Hatton fight concerned me when he said he basically said he fights differently now because he has kids and such. He Mentally changed...which is why I said he was now a declined fighter as far as I'm concerned...which I had posters say I was making excuses. But the facts are, Prime to me, is when you are at your Mental and Physical best...once one slips, you are on the slide. It's why I didn't care he retired. He didn't have the "fight" in him any longer. No sense in going on. He wasn't going to get any better at 30+ and he showed he changed as a fighter...so retire.
Floyd could have won both those fights easier but he chose not to. He does more things wrong now than ever before.
Like I said many times before, he is a now a mix of 36+ year old Bernard Hopkins and 32+ LH, Roy Jones Jr. Hopkins, in that he is more cautious and conservative, allowing half the fight to go by until he picks up the pace...and Roy, because he stops using the jab in favor of pot-shots (instead of combos) and using the lead right.
I also said Floyd Jr. legacy at 147 isn't much to talk about...while saying his legacy is below 147.
I also said he wouldn't beat SRR, SRL, Tommy Hearns, etc. at 147.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 12-08-2008, 07:12 PM.

i did not hear oscar being shot prior to the fight, all i heard that it was a circus
now that pacman win they say oscar is shot, like a way to discredit what pacman just accomplished
i do not think oscar is shot as people would like to think, i believe manny is just too much for him. being the best fighter in boxing and being a southpaw is really too much for the golden boy
just because you made a bad prediction doesnt mean you dont give credit to where its due
